This is Tammy, Carol's darling daughter. Once known as Lady Jane when I crossed her. On the afternoon of Friday, April 29th, I was walking her grandpup and I got a text from my dad. "Mom is being transported by ambulance to Grafton Hospital where her neurologist is waiting for her." She was in pain, a little woozy, and not feeling herself to say the least. Still, not knowing what was going on, she was given oxygen and admitted. Once her oxygen levels normalized, we upped the pain meds and started the fight. What is going on with her?<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Over the course of last weekend we were all still searching for hope. She had an EMG, a few blood draws, and another MRI. She slowly started to become a little more confused which got us very concerned. Turns out her carbon dioxide levels were way above normal. Like, way above. She was sleeping the majority of the time and moving in and out of consciousness. During this time her creative spark was still ablaze! She kept pointing interesting things, like how the different room fixtures looked like a dogs face or a soldier. Even in the hospital room her creative mind couldn't help but see interesting sights. I started to get a little more back stage access to her amazing mind. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
By Monday she had very few moments of lucidity. By Tuesday she was sleeping all the time. Her pain was always managed and she was never alone excluding the hours between 9pm and 8am.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
On Thursday, May 5th, as the doctors wanted to do more invasive procedures and begin a new treatment to potentially help the underlying issue. It was painfully clear to us that we may have already gone beyond her adamant wishes. On Friday we met with a palliative care team and began the hospice process. She never had to move rooms (which were decorated with her quilts and flowers). The nursing staff which got to know her when she was sparky and sweet, loved her and cried with us through to the end.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
She passed yesterday at 5:05. I was there, as were several other family members. We were all with her, touching her in some way and watching her as she gently let go bit by bit. She left so beautifully. As if one moment she became way more interested in something else. Her body that was so used to fighting for breath stopped its urgency. Her breath became relaxed. Its as if we could watch her creative interests move from one world to the next. When she left us we were all in awe. Many tears were shed throughout the week and throughout the day, but at that moment we were purely in awe. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In celebration of her we all opened a can of diet pepsi and toasted to her amazingly beautiful, colorful, honest life. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Thank you all for giving her the medium she deserved. Thank you for seeing her, loving her, and supporting her.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
If any of you has something of hers I would be touched if you could take a picture of it, post it to Facebook and tag her. It has been healing to see all of her work touch so many people.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Her funeral will be this Wednesday, May 11 from 4-7 at Faith Lutheran Church on Division Road in Germantown. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

I have been busy running to appointments with my hubby. I haven't been able to drive since sometime last November, so I am now at his disposal (ugh) and he works every other morning. I don't know if you remember that last time I posted, I told you I was gong to try steroid infusions. This procedure is done in a hospital IV therapy room by appointment. So far I have had 4 treatments and not too much is different, although I can see my legs and feet have lost much of the swelling. Last night my husband and I played "Cinderella" to see which shoes will fit me now. All winter, I have been wearing only one pair. Anyway, these treatments will now continue once a week for 6 weeks. When I originally saw the doctor, he claimed I might be walking by the 2nd week which would not be next week, like we'd think, but the following, since I was supposed to have 5 treatments in a row last week, but I had a conflict with another doctor (ugh), so had to push off the 5th one until Monday. I have been reading like a mad woman though and I thought perhaps you might like these books too.<br />
<br />
Out of all the books I've ever read, I think a book I read in 1979 was my very favorite and I have followed the author ever since. The name of that book was "Kane and Abel" by Jeffrey Archer. It is about two families and the twists and turns that bring them together and at odds. Well, within the last couple of years, Mr. Archer has again outdone himself. He has written a series of 7 books (the last one to be released November 8th of this year), which are simply amazing!!!!! My husband read them all and my son-in-law too, so I thought as long as I wasn't doing much now, and really needed something to read during my IV sessions, I would engage in them too. WOW! Let me give you the names of the books in order (and PLEASE) read them that way:<br />
<br />
The Series is called the Clifton Chronicles and deal with a family for 100 years:<br />
<br />
1. Only Time Will Tell<br />
2. The Sins of the Father<br />
3. Best Kept Secret<br />
4. Be Careful what you wish for.<br />
5. Mightier than the Sword<br />
6. Cometh the Hour<br />
7. This was a Man (released November 8th, 2016)<br />
<br />
Enjoy! And, please keep your fingers crossed for me! carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com22tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-4026356233617944452016-03-30T06:35:00.001-07:002016-03-30T06:35:35.477-07:00Not much has changed<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Bet you thought I died, huh? Nope! Not yet, although I think that every time I go to a new doctor, things get worse. The last time I wrote, I was going to see a cardiologist because of my leg swelling....and, because of an ECHO test I had in January. Apparently there was an issue that needed addressing, but my family doctor told me it wasn't "dire" so no need to worry..........???? Not so much! I had a cardiac catheterization last Thursday and they discovered that I need a new heart valve within 18 months. Isn't that just ducky? That's open heart surgery, my friends.......I didn't know that at first and now, that's all I can think about. Financially, I should have it done this year since we've already met our maximum insurance "out of pocket" expenses, but I have something else in the works and hate to be laid up again if this new situation works.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This past February, my neurologist suggested I see another specialist that deals with nerve/muscle issues only. We called her, but couldn't get until August. They suggested we see her associate, so we made an appointment with him and it was last week. He did the normal nerve tests in the office and afterwards asked if anyone ever suggested steroids. Apparently, they give you infusion steroids for 3-5 days and then once a week for two months and you improve. This guy claims that once I start, I should be walking in a week and a half. He thinks I have an autoimmune disease where my body is just full of inflammation. Who knew?? Anyway, he was going on spring break with his family and will return April 7th and I have already done all the tests I needed prior to the steroid treatments, so I will let you know. At least it's some "HOPE" for now. I cried when I left the office I was so happy. Keep your fingers crossed! Please??</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
In the meantime, I need to show you two things. First, the sticky buns I made for my family for Easter:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpq24QlWc2wjOWSTWAwL7mC_sfet43rYCVSrHPfQDR0FzahChXkd5W24lVQhe8IcOU7WRyh3FHttpo9P5g5vPkxYKoG3yRaRf-iQ2k8RXxKLMFJoJVPndmlAIZqrhgrP3prARncxMqo1h0/s1600/IMG_1628.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpq24QlWc2wjOWSTWAwL7mC_sfet43rYCVSrHPfQDR0FzahChXkd5W24lVQhe8IcOU7WRyh3FHttpo9P5g5vPkxYKoG3yRaRf-iQ2k8RXxKLMFJoJVPndmlAIZqrhgrP3prARncxMqo1h0/s400/IMG_1628.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
And then, the socks I have been knitting forever. I really should get going on them, I suppose.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS4aRiwxFj_A_1mT9obaDAljVXg580-X8jySxc8UGRJsfNk64MRM0Ct65PXWSjBUsyCNHt_Sz3TJ09WzU3WGJk2cuZmcaJ0jAQz8i2qDJRW6_kygpAa_0YZwrPqCVwcwnLSB6ExpcNdJNu/s1600/IMG_1629.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhS4aRiwxFj_A_1mT9obaDAljVXg580-X8jySxc8UGRJsfNk64MRM0Ct65PXWSjBUsyCNHt_Sz3TJ09WzU3WGJk2cuZmcaJ0jAQz8i2qDJRW6_kygpAa_0YZwrPqCVwcwnLSB6ExpcNdJNu/s400/IMG_1629.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
So, that's the news with me. Hope all of you are well, or getting better. These mystery illnesses are no fun and from what I've been reading from some of you, you aren't having a ball with life either. I wish you well. I swear that IF I ever get back to normal again, I never will take the small stuff for granted ever again! Just driving my car again would be a joy, or getting in my 6 ft. bathtub, or even walking to the mailbox. For those of you who can do all of those things - - - you are blessed!! Think about it!!<br />
<br />
So, until next time. Be well and appreciate God's gifts.carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-4158272600306409402016-03-09T06:58:00.000-08:002016-03-09T06:58:04.028-08:00No change.......bummer!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I wish I could give you some positive news, but that will have to wait for another day, if ever. I am going to a Cardiologist on Friday, so maybe he will have some answers, although no one thinks this is a heart issue except for my legs and feet being swollen all the time. Thanks for all your input. You have no idea how comforting your comments were and how much I learned from some of your own ailments. I had no idea how many of you have issues that are mysteries. Seems to me that years ago, doctors were a bit brighter! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
How do you like my birthday orchid? Now, if I can keep it alive, it'll be a miracle. My daughter walked in with it on Sunday and I was blown away. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwyH0Dvn6L5QYLHQJebxGN4pW8yuTDiYyHDixF3ZnR71iWy6vk4Fi2-3isRrelJhbHf61CV_T4lbYOvklEDeeQ5ON_I_uJak9Z9VK5ryqRHTe9DXlwFLPQ7g7DN7gndicCWY7tbnQXtXM/s1600/IMG_1618.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjFwyH0Dvn6L5QYLHQJebxGN4pW8yuTDiYyHDixF3ZnR71iWy6vk4Fi2-3isRrelJhbHf61CV_T4lbYOvklEDeeQ5ON_I_uJak9Z9VK5ryqRHTe9DXlwFLPQ7g7DN7gndicCWY7tbnQXtXM/s400/IMG_1618.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And this was a few weeks ago when I needed to address and stamp envelopes plus stuff the envelopes. Too bad my granddaughter doesn't like chapter books yet. Of course, sometimes I think she's a little snot anyway because her mother doesn't even encourage her........you can tell who runs that household!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And here is the basket that my friend made for me. My yarn looks perfect in it on the dining room table.</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did finish a pair of socks (finally). It's just a plain pair, but I needed to get in the grove first. It's been months since I've knit.</div>

And last but not least, here is a picture of my husband with my friend's 7 week old litter of 5 Havenese puppies. She came over Monday for a nice visit. I think my husband would have kept all 5 if I would have given the word. Toby wasn't too happy. He sat on my friend's lap the whole time she was here.<br />

So, until next time, I hope you are all doing well and having some fun. I continue to visit doctors and have therapists come in the house. Yippee! Hey, at least I can knit again. That's a plus!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com18tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-29374800658846805222016-02-13T07:33:00.002-08:002016-02-13T07:33:30.528-08:00I am a Medical Mystery, I guessIf you have kept up with my former posts, you know that I have been having some medical issues. Since I last visited with you, I have been in two hospitals, one rehab center, and have had numerous tests including 6 MRIs, 1 CT scan, 2 chest x-rays, an ECHO, 2 EMGs, I have no idea how many blood draws, (except I can tell you that they took 18 vials of blood in two days once,) a Spinal Tap, and finally a Bone Marrow draw and they still have no idea what is wrong with me. I have had teams of doctors look at my case, led by 2 Associate professors of the Medical College of Wisconsin with their entourage following them. Right now, I can only walk with a walker and even then, it is difficult. I can no longer drive and haven't since December 2nd. I feel like a recluse and cripple (which I guess I am). Obviously, some nerves are being affected in my body, but by what, who knows? They've got me on Gabapentin, but I know that is only a pain medicine for nerve pain and will help only so much. Funny thing is that on November 17th I was just fine.......going to Target, grocery shopping and getting ready for the holidays. Needless to say, I am not a happy girl!!!<br />
<br />
On another note, my (up til now) wonderful MacBook Air, won't let me import photos, so even if I had made anything, I wouldn't be able to show you. Since I've been home, I'm working on a pair of socks that I ripped apart when I left. For some reason, I guess I couldn't concentrate on them and they were full of mistakes. I did buy some really pretty yarn (pictures still in my camera) that I so wanted to show you......but I decided that since the former ripped apart socks were easy and shouldn't really take forever I'd do them first and try to get this goofy computer to work on the photo issue. Hubby is going to try to help today with the Apple genius' too. (Only they don't know it yet. lol)<br />
<br />
Only good thing that happened this past month is that I lost 8 more lbs making it a total of 63 lbs lost so far since last April 6th. I think I'll go for 17 more and then be done. By then I should be as skinny as my aerobic teacher sister and yoga teaching daughter. lol<br />
<br />
Hope you all are well and have had a better month than me.carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com31tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-49676983414364305902016-01-16T14:54:00.000-08:002016-01-16T14:54:06.301-08:00I'm not having fun yet<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
This past Christmas, my daughter gave me a gift certificate of a monthly bunch of tulips. I love tulips! They're so springy and fresh looking and pink are usually my favorite . I had to show you the first bunch! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I haven't been doing so well lately. No one, so far, has gotten to the bottom of my ailments. And let me tell you, after 3 MRI's, 1 ECHO, 1 EMG, 1 Ultra Sound, 2 Chest X-RAYS, numerous PT appointments, 1 bottle of painkillers, and 1 Pulmonary function Test to go on Thursday, I am not a happy girl. I can hardly balance on either leg, even with a walker and I am bored out of my mind! Sitting on a chair, or couch for any more than an hour at a time is close to impossible and the only time I feel any relief at all is right after I pop two painkillers and am ready to crawl into bed for the night. I am beside myself.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I started two pair of socks since this whole mess happened, but it's not only hard to sit for any period of time to concentrate, but also to stay focused on the pattern itself. I can't even count how many mistakes I've already made.</div>

That's the news with me. Not fun! I go through my Flickr account, looking at stuff I made a few years ago and can hardly believe I made all that stuff. I am much a bum now!<br />
<br />
Anyway, I wanted you to know that I'm still alive and will let you know what the scoop is once I know. I truly wish that you all are well! Until I know something.......carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com25tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-14309801323586015462016-01-02T05:52:00.001-08:002016-01-02T05:52:01.801-08:00Hopefully this is the week for answers<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm really lax in this blogging stuff lately! Probably because I don't really go anywhere other than the doctor and/or Physical therapy (neither of which is really doing anything for me). Monday hopefully will tell the tale. I have 3 tests ordered.........an ECHO, an EMG and a EKG with two follow-up appointments with specialists, for the following week. As of now, I'm still hobbling around with a walker dragging my oxygen tubing. There is only one good thing coming from this........my husband is learning how to cook. I even had him making a meatloaf the other day (if you can believe). I figure he would start with something he liked to eat. lol</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Thought you might like to see our Christmas card for this year........we actually took this picture of our Toby last Christmas and saved it all this time. We tried doing it again this year, but after about 48 pictures, we gave up......either they were blurry, or he was looking the wrong way. It's kind of like taking pictures of kids.....the good shots are few and far between!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then here is an envelope I sent to my sweet niece......I have only a few to go and all my books for her will be gone. She's so advanced that the books are getting too fat to send through the mail.</div>

So, 2015 bites the dust! If/when I get back in shape, I can start being creative again.....I so miss it! Happy and healthy 2016 to all of you!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com13tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-80350061325361052632015-12-14T12:37:00.001-08:002015-12-14T12:37:51.886-08:00It's been an interesting few weeks....<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, guess who just got out of the hospital last Friday? Remember I was telling you that my back went "out"? Well, apparently it went out more than I thought. By a week ago Sunday I was only able to walk with a walker (thanks to the inheritance of dead relatives). My daughter suggested that I contact a chiropractor, so on Monday I called a guy my husband used a few years ago and made two appointments. One for Monday afternoon and one for Tuesday afternoon. My husband had to drive me. By the time the second one was over, I thought I was going to die from pain, so called my "real" doctor upon getting home and made an appointment for 6:45 that night. He put me directly in the hospital to control the pain and hopefully get to the bottom of things. I was immediately put on IV painkillers and oxygen because my levels were so low and had an MRI scheduled for the next day...(Wednesday). My doctor told me on Wednesday morning (yes, he still does hospital visits...rare these days, I understand), that we'd see what happens there before going on. Wednesday evening the back surgeon for the whole hospital comes in to see me, tells me there is no bulging disk, or pinched nerve and that he wished more 69 year old ladies would have the spines I have. (Wonderful!!! I thought that was going to be the answer). My doctor immediately ordered a chest x-ray because my oxygen levels were playing such tricks.........(even though I have had COPD for the past 10 years, I've not needed oxygen until that point, and not especially since I lost over 45 lbs. since April 6th.) He thought maybe a tumor developed and was moving......but, NO! The next day I had an ultrasound to check for PAD........an artery disease, but nothing conclusive came from that either, but it still might be the answer, who knows? My fanny is completely numb, my legs hurt, my feet are swollen and I came home with oxygen, and painkillers....UGH! I DO have physical therapy scheduled....my first appointment is Friday, and was told NOT to go back to the chiropractor. In the meantime, my doctor will give me an ECHO and EKG tomorrow because it could be my heart............holy cow! I guess time will tell, but what a crummy time of year to have this happen. Thankfully, my cookies are all baked and sorted, my house is decorated, the presents have all been wrapped, and I am now in a stupor trying to teach my husband to grocery shop and cook on a gas stove.......double ugh!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anyway, that's my news of woe! I did send out these envelopes to my sweet niece:</div>

<br />
Those red ones are for ME! All the gift socks have been made.....thank God!<br />
<br />
So, that's my news.......Not fun by any stretch of the imagination, believe me! I can't use a little portable oxygen tank yet because of the amount of "air" I need when moving around......and those big ones are close to 50 lbs. Try puling one of those while walking with a walker and trying not to trip on the tubing......it's almost laughable, believe me!<br />
<br />
I sure hope your past few weeks have been better than mine. One of these days, I hope to knit again, which is more than my neighbor can say. She is my knitting buddy, but fell on Friday and broke her wrist! On top of that her blood pressure is off the charts......always something, I guess, huh?carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com21tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-58098174241347891362015-11-26T15:50:00.000-08:002015-11-26T15:50:59.360-08:00Happy Thanksgiving<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Boy oh boy! I just about get over the coughing bit, and then my back goes out.....!! I'm still in pain, but at least I can walk now, although not like before, yet. Taking Tylenol like crazy and doing exercises suggested by my doctor. Then, today, when I should be spending the holiday with my family at my sister's house, I come down with either food poisoning, or the flu. Who knows which? Needless to say, I sent my husband to spend Thanksgiving with the family with the 3 pies I made, and I am here alone waiting for him to bring home a bun and slice of turkey for me. I think this is the first Thanksgiving I've ever missed, so that, in itself, is something to be grateful for......that, plus I am feeling a lot better than this morning. Needless to mention that I haven't been doing much!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I continure to send my little niece fun envelopes with books. My granddaughter's envelopes are on hold until she decides to like "easy chapter books".</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm still knitting socks and continue to love it although I wish I could knit faster. I'm not a very patient person! Here is a pair that my daughter-in-law will be getting for Christmas:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvm0p7RJoiEyum_h7yo36mr3W8KboerisAacs3W__q_5dwKWsh_BYxxgGC9LpbTNdnYbvUlbMk84LqFYeBVdh3GhI-9T3TpD0SEWzXMJyBGTsP196E1LSh5NtJp8LV_ykJtI2ezv4Kbaah/s1600/IMG_1575.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhvm0p7RJoiEyum_h7yo36mr3W8KboerisAacs3W__q_5dwKWsh_BYxxgGC9LpbTNdnYbvUlbMk84LqFYeBVdh3GhI-9T3TpD0SEWzXMJyBGTsP196E1LSh5NtJp8LV_ykJtI2ezv4Kbaah/s400/IMG_1575.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then, amazingly enough, I even started a pair for myself:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
So, that's about it! I hope you are having a marvelous Thanksgiving and sharing it with those you love! Until later..........</div>

How is everybody? Did you get the "crud" yet that's going around? Where you cough your brains out and can't stop? (Hand goes up here, folks!!) Well, I hope you don't get it. It's bad.....ask me how I know. I'm recovering....finally....after almost two whole weeks and a prescription of antibiotic! Needless to say, I haven't been doing much...except knitting. Thank God for that! It took my mind off of how miserable I was!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, like I said, I did do some knitting. Those hot pink ones are mine! They match a t-shirt that I have and I'm really excited to wear them.......(just as soon as I show my sister). She is a knitter too and has been knitting socks a ton longer than me.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div>
Next, I have to start/finish a sock that matches one I made several weeks ago......and after that, I will start on my Christmas cookie baking. I'm telling you, never a dull moment around here. Are you feeling the pressure already too? Eikes!</div>

I must tell you.......IF you decide to buy new carpeting, be prepared to also buy yourself a new vacuum cleaner. YES, you read that right!! When we built this house 27 years ago, we had a central vacuum system installed and all these years it has been wonderful for both our hard surface floors and carpeting.........EXCEPT NOW! Now, using the power head we've used for years, it shuts off immediately when (if) you can push it on the new carpeting. I called my carpet store and they told me that the carpeting of today is so much softer and thicker than in years past, that each carpet manufacturer has it's favorite vacuum to use on their carpeting. How do you like that?? Ours likes Oreck.....so I go on Amazon and find the model they suggested and it's not too bad at $199.99 so I told hubby and he told me not to buy it until he checked with the central vac people......so eventually that happens and guess what? Now the price is $399.99 for the Oreck. This keeps getting better and better, huh???!! So, hubs goes to the local Oreck dealership and ta-da....they have a deal going on for a measly $299.99........so he bought it. Now, that's not the only problem. Hubs thought he was in the $$$, I think, because he also bought himself a new Apple computer this week. Now, I've been using a Mac laptop for years, but he was a Microsoft guy from way back......NOW though he thinks he's an Apple genius or something so he decides (out of the blue) to install a new system on my laptop last night without my knowledge and now I can't get e-mail, my bookmarks are gone, I don't know how to put the dumb thing to sleep anymore.......and I could go on!!!! MEN!!! Needless to say, I'm not happy!! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are the envelopes from the past two weeks. I've put the envelopes for my granddaughter on hold for now since she informed me that she doesn't like easy chapter books yet. I figure I can resume when she decides she likes them. Why waste my $$ when she can't appreciate them yet anyway.</div>

Enjoy your week and your weather! It's getting really chilly here. We're supposed to have frost tonight. I went to Kohl's this morning and bought a pair of cuddle duds for myself. I've never used them before, but lately I've been cold already so I figure they can't hurt. Until next week......carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-54694357037978708142015-10-02T16:18:00.000-07:002015-10-02T16:18:18.219-07:00Winter is coming<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
It's really getting chilly here. All day the high has only been 50 degrees. I've been in the house with long sleeves, socks, jeans and a hoodie. I refuse to turn on the furnace yet. Crazy, I know! Believe me, it will happen soon enough!</div>

And then, I started a new pair of socks almost two weeks ago and thankfully, they're done now. I used the pattern, "Hermione's Everyday Socks" with Manos Del Uruguay yarn - Alegria in the "Pindo 8855" color way with size #1 needles. My daughter will be thrilled! And that's the news……not much, but boring is good! I hope you all have a pleasant and fun week. Until next time……….</div>

I'm thrilled with this weather! We've had a warmer September than all of August, if you can believe it. The grass is still green, the leaves continue to hang on the trees, the tomatoes are still ripening on the vines, and unless you look at the calendar, it seems like summer. I really wish it would last all year!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
My carpeting is all in, and believe it or not, everything works including the TV even with that mass of wires that I showed you last week. My husband must be some sort of genius. I seriously thought TV shopping would be in our future before this….but all is well (for now). Although he still is hell bent on getting a stainless refrigerator……lol!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here are the envelopes I sent out this week:</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, I finished another pair of socks. These will be added to the Christmas gift bag…..it is another Laule'a pattern using Dream in Color - Classy worsted yarn in the Kettle-dyed Magic Orchid color way. I used size #6 needles and these knit up super fast!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimGnoiARIhkaoT0xnhTemDhBqPosJ53Epqf9h_Pc6u3S-lEI810WW25TlwSu8TY28RU-rHX8GtyEF2-rna1L2bAFYj-LE5fnCq8mSiLYImyj9tFqsC7XX9sUndn0Wv7jBr9RPXyGoNXURg/s1600/IMG_1546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimGnoiARIhkaoT0xnhTemDhBqPosJ53Epqf9h_Pc6u3S-lEI810WW25TlwSu8TY28RU-rHX8GtyEF2-rna1L2bAFYj-LE5fnCq8mSiLYImyj9tFqsC7XX9sUndn0Wv7jBr9RPXyGoNXURg/s400/IMG_1546.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
After making four pair of those, I got a bit tired of them so decided to go a different route. I am using Manos Del Uruguay - Alegria yarn in the "Pindo (8855)" color way next. I'm making the Hermione's Everyday sock pattern. Here's the beginning of the first sock:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ9oPj7vC3Cd1y-Fgmp6E1T6Wb2uRyagr6OQrFP-xgv0JU04r_NJuDago7pV8ZyTJ16DgAqmt0WID4_RFw5Qyx-s0TA7ETN-z3mqvBI2uH0wBRtdNaiE6B6atE6KuJTs47M_2t13u5fEny/s1600/IMG_1548.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgZ9oPj7vC3Cd1y-Fgmp6E1T6Wb2uRyagr6OQrFP-xgv0JU04r_NJuDago7pV8ZyTJ16DgAqmt0WID4_RFw5Qyx-s0TA7ETN-z3mqvBI2uH0wBRtdNaiE6B6atE6KuJTs47M_2t13u5fEny/s400/IMG_1548.jpg" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
So, that's about the news here. Nothing too exciting, that's for sure! Hope you are boring too….boring is good! Have a good week, my friends and do something fun for yourself. You deserve it!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-6951046275635862102015-09-18T13:34:00.000-07:002015-09-18T13:34:46.001-07:00One down - one to go<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
That's right! My carpet installers were here last Tuesday to change over the master bedroom carpeting and the loft and will be back this coming Tuesday for the living center, dining room and staircase. They not only took up all the old carpeting and pad, but also moved all the furniture back and forth. I was worried that we wouldn't be able to sleep in our "Sleep Number" bed that night, but my guys knew all about them and we had no trouble. Whew!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Hopefully, I can tell you that this coming Tuesday will be as uneventful, but when you look at the mess behind our TV, I shutter!! AND please don't blame this mess on me! Believe it or not, our TV and surround sound was professionally installed……..which, of course, makes it even worse when it all gets moved to replace the carpeting underneath it. UGH! Two bits we won't be watching TV Tuesday night……double ugh!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then there is the knitting. Believe it or not, I finished two pair this week. Yes, they were done with worsted yarn on size #6 needles, but still…..!! I have three pair of these to go for Christmas gifts but after four pair already, I'm taking a break and will knit something else first.</div>

So, that's the news! Nothing very exciting, and I'm kind of happy for that. At my age, boring is good!<br />
<br />
Have a fun week, my friends!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-11791641951020762912015-09-11T16:18:00.003-07:002015-09-11T16:18:19.790-07:00It's official - summer is over!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Last Sunday, we hosted our annual family pool party. The weather was perfect, the food was yummy and everyone had a good time. Next Thursday the pool gets closed up for winter and another summer will be over. Sometimes it goes too fast for me……I relish the warmer weather…..but live in a cold state. Crazy! (Incidentally, don't go looking for me in the pool…..I didn't go in that day. lol)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
After supper the little ones used their drawing skills to decorate our walkway. Stupid me didn't take a picture of it until the next day after it rained. Where was my brain?<br />

Of course, I sent out envelopes this week. Just because school started, doesn't mean my sweeties don't like mail with good books inside.<br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
AND….whooppee, I finished another pair of socks this week. These were made with worsted weight yarn and are quite thick. They also were knit with bigger needles which made them go fast…right up my alley! This is the same pattern that I used on the purple ones I showed you recently.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, that's it for this week. Tuesday starts the carpet installation and I'm not looking forward to it…..although I can't wait until it's all done and my stuff is all back where it belongs. Just moving the little things is a pain, believe me. I'm finding things I didn't even remember I had. lol <br />
<br />
Have a great week, my friends and PLEASE do something you love…it's so important for your mental health.carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-74276109239405645392015-09-04T20:45:00.002-07:002015-09-04T20:45:27.782-07:00It's decided…..<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, I did it! This morning I put a deposit on carpeting for the majority of the house. I finally decided and I'm happy! Now I wish it was done already because I really can't even imagine the craziness of moving all those rooms of furniture, bedding, etc. Actually, my salesman called me a week ago and told me of an upcoming sale where they will remove all the old carpeting, dispose of it and the old padding, plus move the furniture out of the room (and hopefully put it back in) for free…to be included in the price of the carpeting. Well, who could beat that? That, in itself, saved me almost $700…..so today I did it. Now to wait ……maybe I can be gone when it happens and let my hubby deal with it. Now, that would really be good!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I sent out these envelopes (with books inside, naturally) to my sweeties:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then…..how many of you have tried Panera's summer strawberry salad? Oh my, it's so yummy so I tried duplicating it at home……but I forgot the pecans, and I even had some….poop! It was a good though and I'm going to make more until the strawberries get yucky. My specialty store even carried the Panera Low Fat Poppyseed dressing. Soooooo good!</div>

<br />
Lastly, I even started and finished a whole pair of socks last week…..(can you believe…..1 week for 2 socks?) Actually, they were made with worsted yarn and knit with #6 needles so they went super fast. My friend knit some for herself and told me about them. She said they would be perfect for just lounging in the winter…….(I doubt if they'd even fit in shoes, they're so thick). lol I'm going to make a few pair for Christmas gifts.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
So, that's the news this week. Sunday we're hosting the annual family pool party and amazingly the weather is cooperating. The temps are supposed to hit 90! It's almost unbelievable. There have been years when we've already had the pool closed by Sept 6th it's been so cold……I think an angel is watching over us this year!!<br />
<br />
<br />
So, my friends, enjoy your holiday weekend and be well! It won't be long until winter sets in and it's cold again…….I even saw Christmas decorations for sale in a Joanne fabric store yesterday. Ugh!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-60407201768305684702015-08-30T06:29:00.000-07:002015-08-30T06:29:31.896-07:00Nothing much new here…..<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Holy cow, I am one boring girl! Nothing new….well actually a whole mess of stuff has been happening with friends and relatives, but nothing really affecting me, personally, and I guess, that's good. When you get to my age, you really appreciate…boring! No ups or downs and things just going reasonably well is wonderful! I KNOW that some of you know exactly what I mean!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
No sewing again…stuff is still all packed away in the basement for now and I'm thinking it just might stay there for the remainder of the year. I have purchased a ton of yarn lately, and just like my fabric stash, my collection is growing faster than I can use it. I NEED to stop! I did pawn off a few DROPS FABEL skeins on my sister and neighbor this week, so I feel a bit better and if any of you want to try that "Dorothy's Slip Stitch Spiral Knit Sock" patter …….look it up on Google, it's free), I'll see what I have left and send you a skein or two. It is cheap though and I bought mine at the Nordic Mart. The yarn name is Drops Fabel Prints and you need two to make a pair of socks. Later in this post there is a picture of a pair.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Until then, here are the envelopes I sent out this week:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Since I had made three pair of that pattern already, (and even though I have a ton of yarn left for more combinations), I thought I needed a change, so here is what I'm knitting now. This yarn is NOT cheap…...it is marvelous and I am in heaven with every stitch. It has cashmere in it….ummmmm!! Note that it does have a slight variance in color which makes it interesting. I can't wait to see these done.</div>

So, until next week…when I will be in a flurry preparing for the annual family pool party…..I hope you will be doing something that you love this week…..after all, that's what makes life fun! Have a good week, my friends…...carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-85194036446480695972015-08-21T16:46:00.000-07:002015-08-21T16:46:56.733-07:00Some decisions made…..<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Well, I'm happy to tell you that the carpet choices are made and everything is set to go once I talk to my salesman. The measurer guy was here this morning and I'm anxious to hear the outcome, although I kind of know the total sq. footage for both areas. We decided to not only do the living center, stairs and upstairs loft area, but also the master bedroom and closet. (Pity me when we have to move all the stuff and put it all back together after the job is done. Whew…I'm sweating already just thinking about it!!) Sonny boy and his friend will remove the old carpeting and padding, and then, who knows? Where all the furniture will be while this is all going on, I have no idea!!! Maybe, if it's nice, we might put it in the garage.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I, naturally, sent out envelopes to my girls this week. I must admit that I am running out of books and envelopes, so soon, I'll either have to draw some more envelopes for the ones I have and color them, or give up this practice altogether. I have been doing this for Audrey well over 2 years already and now it's getting to where her books are getting too fat to send through the mail. Although Audrey is only going into 2nd grade, she is reading at almost the 5th grade level. Arwen is a good reader too, but not to the point to where her books are too fat yet. She is a year behind Audrey though. </div>

<br />
No reading this week, in fact, I think I should take my library books back because I have gotten no further than page 40 on the one I started two weeks ago. Bummer to me!! <br />
<br />
Hope you all are enjoying the little bit of summer we have left. So far the weather here is better than it was in June, so we're hoping it holds out a little longer. I have our family "pool party" scheduled here for Sept 6th and that day can quite literally mean anything in Wisconsin….there have been years it's been 90 and some in the 50's so time will tell. I'm not getting anxious yet……another week and then I'll decide if it will come to pass this year or not. With so many of my family on vacations this summer, the party was postponed. Usually we have it in July.<br />
<br />
Until next week…..enjoy yourself!!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-2364230052793616392015-08-15T08:40:00.000-07:002015-08-15T08:40:13.687-07:00Nothing exciting….<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Wow…between knitting my brains out (and still going so slowly) and running back and forth to the carpet store, it seems as though the week just got away from me. Sometimes, I wonder how I did everything when I used to work. lol I'm in process of another pair of fun socks and hopefully I'll finish them this week so I can show you. AND….hopefully too, I will decide on carpeting (decided against hardwood) and be done with that chore. This running back and forth with samples is driving me "batty"!! My house is so much brighter than the store that the samples look completely different when I get them home.</div>

My head has also been in La Reunion Island this week. If you recall, that's the island where the piece of the missing plane MH370 appeared last week. Actually, it was discovered the same day my sister, BIL, niece and nephew arrived there to witness and celebrate my other nephew's (and Godson's) wedding. It was on a bluff overlooking the Indian Ocean and I guess, from what I heard was glorious! My niece is already back and told me all about it. La Reunion Island is a tiny island southeast of Africa and is owned by France. To get there from the US is a real trick. First to Dublin, then Paris and finally an 11 hour flight to La Reunion…….to the tune of (I hope you're sitting down)….this time of year, $2700 per person round trip. Now you know why the whole family wasn't there!!! The bride is from there and the two of them met in Australia where they both work and live now. </div>

<br />
Believe it or not, I started a book……"Black Eyed Susans" by Julia Heaberlin that I picked up at he library but I'm only on page 40 so can't really give you a whole big opinion, yet. So far though, it's really good. You might want to check it out.<br />
<br />
Anyway, that was my week. Hope yours was good…….carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-9391930280358851392015-08-07T11:54:00.000-07:002015-08-07T11:54:40.061-07:00Having fun!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Boy oh boy! Since I told you about my latest passion: "Dorothy's Slip Stitch Spiral Knit Socks" I have done nothing but knit, combine yarns and place orders. Believe me, "nordicmart.com" loves me! At only $3.05 a skein for 50gr. though, it is quite a steal. 2 skeins are used for one pair of socks. I think I have enough for awhile to supply myself, my sister and even my neighbor since I invited them both to join me in this fun adventure.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVBb6VVyqjYVo2GJhDFAVtSJYcF0PkB0cj3dDXAGtvvsAPQYH6iyqj_c58hkREcJOQtK8YImjRmhngmD5xLpPn1qUMOTP3flfP33bwUajoPQl70iZR6ALK3Be5W6jRospZQyp3F1iYZ1PC/s1600/IMG_1493.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="183" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgVBb6VVyqjYVo2GJhDFAVtSJYcF0PkB0cj3dDXAGtvvsAPQYH6iyqj_c58hkREcJOQtK8YImjRmhngmD5xLpPn1qUMOTP3flfP33bwUajoPQl70iZR6ALK3Be5W6jRospZQyp3F1iYZ1PC/s400/IMG_1493.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Most people that I've heard of, use Drops Fabel yarn…which is the stuff pictured above. I didn't know that when I first started, so bought some German yarns that were self striping instead and made this:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-SRE2kC-mhpl0NNy8WgX4La8CvyAZx19s8S_aVfjy7RGr1s0cE0aP18f3-O-9F2eDmfV1zJUeV60Z__Qsc7bych8SHFkwtPQQpxjB5V8VDEObRkM3hOHDDIed7S_DnkYBQjY03VttfCZh/s1600/IMG_1490.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-SRE2kC-mhpl0NNy8WgX4La8CvyAZx19s8S_aVfjy7RGr1s0cE0aP18f3-O-9F2eDmfV1zJUeV60Z__Qsc7bych8SHFkwtPQQpxjB5V8VDEObRkM3hOHDDIed7S_DnkYBQjY03VttfCZh/s400/IMG_1490.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then, so I wouldn't get bored, but still wanted two, I decided to reverse the main color on the 2nd sock and ended up with two socks which look like they belong to each other, but not quite. Personally, I think they're a hoot!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I think these will be put away for Christmas…..I have someone special in mind already! I, naturally, sent out some envelopes, but only to one girl this week. My niece is on vacation, visiting her brother in Reunion island where he got married last Saturday. Funny that hardly anyone one in the world knew of this place until my sister and family landed there and the debris from the downed MH370 plane was discovered the very same day. Anyway, that's not why I'm not sending the books to my great niece, I'm not sending them because she and her daddy are very busy while my niece is away…..lol The ones below went to my granddaughter.<br />
<br />

Stay tuned for more cool combinations and possibly another finished pair. Whew….if only I could knit as fast as I used to sew!!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-2073830145316270042015-07-31T14:55:00.000-07:002015-07-31T14:55:43.074-07:00What a nice surprise….<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I had such a nice surprise the other day when I picked up my mail on the way to an appointment and noticed a priority envelope addressed to me from Oregon. Since I didn't think I knew anyone in Oregon and hadn't ordered anything from there, I was mystified as to what it could be. I very well couldn't rip it open as I drove, so my mind was filled with various possibilities. As soon as I reached my destination, I tore into it and found the most wonderful note and the items below. A new handmade dishtowel for my new green kitchen along with a dishcloth made by the "givers" mother. How sweet! My heart was filled with joy at the kindness that my friend, Pennie, gave me….what a wonderful gift and nice surprise, just when I needed it most. Thank you, sweetie! I love them both and they are already being put to good use. I wrote you a note on Flickr…I hope you saw it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
On another note, another friend had an exciting event happen at her house this week…..her Havanese girl dog gave birth to 9 healthy babies……YES…9! I could hardly believe it! Mama weighs only 14 lbs. I like the little black and white one in the middle, don't you? Now I will have fun watching them grow up……and I will go visit before they leave for their new homes, believe me. Wow!</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And, again, no sewing, or reading this week and I wasn't even a very good knitter either. The first two socks were flops and taken apart. I hated the combination colors of the first, and the 2nd ended up too tight and felt like it had already been in too hot of water. It was stiff and not soft. SO…I tried again with bigger needles and I think I got it. #3 is in process…..stay tuned!</div>

Incidentally, if you're interested, they're having a Knit-Along with this pattern on Raverly…..there are tons of different combinations posted. I've ordered a ton of yarn……I want to try them all!! lol<br />

Until next week…………...carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-89328998922616374162015-07-24T07:41:00.000-07:002015-07-24T07:41:11.942-07:00Decisions - decisions<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Now that the kitchen is done, I have been thinking/looking at various floorings to put in our 18ft vaulted living center, stairway and loft area. Right now we have carpeting…..but should I replace it with hardwood? AND if I do hardwood, should I just bite the bullet and put it through the rest of the downstairs too….including the kitchen, 1/2 bath, hallway, laundry room and front foyer? That would be approximately 1400 sq ft……not cheap to say the least! OR, should I just be cheap and practical and replace the carpeting with new carpeting? I am stumped! First though…..and yuck about this…..my house was built in 1988. Do you know what that means? Yes, our vaulted living center and loft areas have popcorn ceilings. Glory be!! I've already decided to leave the stuff on the vaulted ceiling in the living center (after all how many people look that high up anyway?), but I think I need to have the ceiling updated in the loft area with the 2 skylight chutes as well. Hopefully, we can hire our son to do that, otherwise Jennifer (my trusty contractor) will be getting another job. No way would I even attempt to do it!!! I will let you know what happens.</div>

And here is what I've been doing all week. This is pair #6, I'll have you know. I found an awesome pattern for some real fun socks online this week and have ordered a ton of yarn to play with, so stay tuned. I can hardly wait for the mailman! Did you note my matching reading glasses? I couldn't resist!</div>

And that's about the news! No books again, and I must admit that I really miss reading. One of these days….!! Hope you are having a great summer and are staying busy. I just love all the sunshine and no snow. lol Until next week….carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-63076698718130114462015-07-17T04:44:00.000-07:002015-07-17T04:44:58.996-07:00Another week…….<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
First off I want to thank you all for your oh-so-nice comments on my newly remodeled kitchen. I do love it and your comments make it even better! (Still no stainless refrigerator here yet, BUT Monday is our 43rd anniversary and I have a funny feeling that some big cardboard box might be at the door soon after that….I will let you know.) I have been shopping for carpeting, or hardwood though. We need to replace 98 sq yards of carpeting in our living center, stairs and loft area and so far, I'm not sure what I want to do. Personally, the only hardwood I really LOVE is bleached maple in 5 inch planks, and it really doesn't "go" in my house. Quite honestly, I actually swoon when I see it……..it's soooooo gorgeous! I'll probably just end up buying carpeting though. I hadn't been to a flooring store in 14 years and I was surprised how soft the carpeting has become. Years ago, you'd have to pay through the nose to get really soft carpeting, but now, it seems they all have some softness to them AND it's not as expensive as I thought it would be so that's a plus too!!!</div>

Naturally, I sent out envelopes to my sweeties this week:</div>

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Again, I didn't even stick my nose in a book all week. Shame on me!! Seems I can't read and knit so lately I have been knitting my brains out………BUT it takes soooooooo long! I can read a $25 book in probably 1 1/2 days at most, but it takes me 10 days or longer to knit $25 worth of yarn for a pair of socks. Now, you'd think because of this, I would be saving $$, wouldn't you? NOT SO MUCH!! Problem is that I shop online for more yarn……..yes! This week I think I ordered 7 skeins. DO YOU know how long it'll take me to knit 7 skeins of yarn for 7 pair of socks? Over 3 months!! Hello??? And this isn't the only week I shopped for yarn online……….eikes! I'm getting quite a drawer full, I must admit!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Here is the pair that is almost finished. I am close to being done with the foot part and then I only have the toe to go. Yippee! I LOVE making the first sock, but by the time I need to start #2, it's not as much fun. Any of you knitters out there have a solution for this? If so, PLEASE let me know! </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div>
So, that's the news here. I hope you all are having a good summer and doing fun things at least once a week for yourself! It's important to feed your own soul…..I do it with creativity. (Plus, I'm getting a start on Christmas gifts……lol) Until next week………….</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Then……do you remember this? This is my kitchen not that long ago:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKqlrVNPlhtcWtQuqKCKGUW8A7EqjWR4o7bKqREg-VcnC5b24F7LoD_JFdTXfHH7Cg9Vu8vwKNkVCQWZXbya8l1PJEbccAx3XuiuTcQK1vGP8s_AGSZQH62C98thkFkJI2wTe1TIMJvqi/s1600/IMG_1426.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUKqlrVNPlhtcWtQuqKCKGUW8A7EqjWR4o7bKqREg-VcnC5b24F7LoD_JFdTXfHH7Cg9Vu8vwKNkVCQWZXbya8l1PJEbccAx3XuiuTcQK1vGP8s_AGSZQH62C98thkFkJI2wTe1TIMJvqi/s400/IMG_1426.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
AND…..ta-da……this is my kitchen today! All bright and happy and I LOVE it!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgowkJTNmviUcYyuWOyMUh-s4GbB4Iu6Gttcb7qb8MgWZtfuyX_fn1xa14BEhAdY6ZcZA_7NHxbpm4AkxIlGDS41BGbfggPuHEF5QtDrdPX7mcIdfWe5ouvch195EQwTzzawOvmNOoTi9kc/s1600/IMG_1469.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgowkJTNmviUcYyuWOyMUh-s4GbB4Iu6Gttcb7qb8MgWZtfuyX_fn1xa14BEhAdY6ZcZA_7NHxbpm4AkxIlGDS41BGbfggPuHEF5QtDrdPX7mcIdfWe5ouvch195EQwTzzawOvmNOoTi9kc/s400/IMG_1469.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I did not match the tile to the paint color……actually, if you'd see the glass tile in person, you wouldn't believe it even looks green. It's a beige color called "cloth". AND…behind the tile, the wall was painted with white primer so you can't blame it on paint either. I was surprised to say the least that it took on a green hue, but not in a bad way. I really like it. I just hope I don't get sick of green!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Note the creaminess of the cabinets next to the underside of the soffit which is painted "ceiling white"…..the color on the cabinets is "Maritime White" by Benjamin Moore. They match my bisque Corian countertop perfectly. (It only took 3 tries before we got the right color……that's a whole other story.)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
This morning, I popped over to Target and bought pale green towels and washcloths for the kitchen….matchy-matchy, you know! lol Next is a new refrigerator. Believe it or not, mine has been working perfectly for about 15 years and it's almond. Hubby is insisting on stainless. I guess I'll cave this time. Ten years ago when we put in the countertops, and did the original back splash and bought the other appliances, I insisted that the almond refrigerator was fine…..and even now, it seems a shame to get rid of something that still works okay.<br />
<br />
So, that's the news here! Needless to say, I didn't read a book this week…….BUT, I am working on a new pair of socks which you will see soon! Have a super week……!!carolhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17801265907110578386noreply@blogger.com14tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-685326246628637667.post-66242960600652188982015-07-03T07:20:00.003-07:002015-07-03T07:20:54.397-07:00Happy 4th of July<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm already getting ready for family to celebrate the 4th of July…..hope you are too! I have potatoes boiling now for potato salad, and just got back from the store with tons of fruit for a fruit salad. Yummy eats on the 4th are part of the tradition!!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I'm sad to tell you that my kitchen is no further than it was last week, but that will change soon. I heard from my contractor that the tile is in and she will be here to install the back splash on Tuesday. Yippee! I'm so anxious to get this completed and to show you the before and "afters". I do love it so far!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Sent out envelopes with books again this week…….(naturally)…..and was asked my my sweeties to take a picture of myself in the artistic process since they're both saving the envelopes. I thought that was sweet. </div>

My little great niece called me and told me I looked like a real artist…..how do you like that??? I had to laugh. Kids are so funny!</div>

AND….I was knitting. (I should be reading two books I took out from the library, but haven't started those yet and they're due the 11th….bad me.) Anyway, here are the pair I finished (the 3rd pair I'll have you know) and following is the pair I just started (which I am having a heck of a time with for some reason.) The yarn is very stiff and rough and doesn't want to leave the needles easily…..love the pattern though. I will finish one sock and see what I think after that.</div>
