Giving Thanks

Just in time for fall and Thanksgiving, I thought a give-away would be nice.  After all, I am so grateful for all of you and the sewing community here in blogville and Flickr.  I have made so many friends!!!  (Oh, incidentally, I am posting this and the pic of the giveaway at the same time, if you can believe???.  For a change, you are not seeing things 2-3 days later.  LOL)  Anyway, I wasn't sure what you might like, but thought maybe a quilt front, back and binding might be nice.  Sooooo, if you want to win this Batik Beauty (48 x 65 1/2 inches), fancy back (4 inches bigger than the front all the way around) and scrappy binding, just tell me why you would like to win.  Please don't forget your e-mail address so I can contact you for mailing info. if you get lucky.

Batik Beauty

Batik Back

Scrappy Binding

Believe me that everything is straight. The wind was blowing when we were taking pics. Also, I have the tops labeled for your convenience and that's what the white thing is on the tops of both. LOL The winner will drawn by a random drawing next Friday, November 20th. Good luck!!!

  1. Oh Carol, this quilt is pretty. I would love anything from you. It is funny how batiks get a bad rap on Flickr. I have been to many sights and people all say they are against batiks. I am not sure why, but I think they consider themselves "modern" and batiks are not. I really don't get it because the colors that batiks bring are potentially so much brighter than some prints. Also, the subtleties in the batiks lend themselves to blending better. Well, enough said.. I would love anything you make and am looking forward to when the hubby leaves for your next madness. That small squared quilt you made is glorious.... mamamary2.. maryperrine@yahoo.com

  2. What a generous and beautiful giveaway! Don't we all have so much to be thankful for! I think that if I won this beauty I would have to find someone to pass it on to (once I quilt it, of course!) My mother just received her second clean scan after undergoing chemo for lung cancer - I would love to give it to her as a celebration gift! I am very thankful that she is doing so much better!

  5. Dear Carol,
I agree, we all have so much too be thankful for .. new friends from flickr and blogville and two things that I have enjoyed more than I thought possible. I have learned much and hope I have given in return. Being thankful is a choice we all make everyday, thankful for friends, homes, incomes, freedoms, families the list is endless. your quilt is beautiful and I love it, but more than that I am thankful for the reminder to be thankful!

    Thanks for your generousity :)
I'd love to win this pretty batik, because I just LOVE batik. I'm from Indonesia where the real traditional batik comes from. I want to feel the texture and see what the difference between your batik and mine :D

  25. Amandajean sent me here. I am so amazed at the quilty blog world. The people I have met here are absolutely the most talented and generous group of people.
Your quilt is so beautiful. I am thinking I would love something like this in my living room. When hubby gets up in the night because of his back, he sometimes sleeps on the floor of the living room. He is using an old tattered double wedding ring quilt that I keep trying to figure out how to restore. Once in a while I find a piece from DWR that has been dislodged because of her frailty.
If I were chosen, I think I would put it in DWR's place and hide the old one so I can restore her some day.
Thank you for such a sweet and generous give away. You are such a talented lady.

  28. I don't suppose I have a better reason than anyone else for wanting to win. I love batiks, and there's something so fun about sharing (and being shared with) in the quilting arena. Otherwise it can be a very solitary, hermit-like hobby -- holed up in the sewing room for hours at a time (or days at a time). Your quilt is beautiful. I love the backing -- so fun. It's so sweet of you to be willing to part with so much hard work.

I wanted to make a quilt myself but unfortunately time is lacking with school and work, but quilting and binding should be no problem.

  47. Why I should win? Hmmm. There are probably lots of deserving people out there! But I would defintely be one of the most appreciative ones... Because I am a crafter myself I know how much thought and effort goes into a quilt like that. Because I've been dreaming about a quilt like this for my son (I would like to make one myself, but sewing is just not my forté. I'm a knitter.) I have a passion for everything homemade.

And lastly,it would be fun if my luck turned: I've only won a bag of apples in my life.

  52. I am a terrible sewer. I try so hard but I can not make my blocks come out the same size. I am not talking about an intricate design here, just an easy nine patch. They all turn out wonky. (I am so glad that wonky is now popular. Actually maybe I started a trend!) I would love to win a premade quilt top so that I could machine quilt it and see how I do on that part of sewing. I think I can quilt, but it is hard to tell with my wonky squares. My sewing esteem needs a boost so please pick ME. LOL I only wish I were kidding

  53. I LOVE this quilt! And what a generous giveaway! I would love to own this quilt because so far I have only made small quilts. I also currently live in an apartment so I can't paint and this would add some MUCH needed color to my home. And Batiks are my very favorite!

  58. Fun a giveaway!! I just found you through Amanda Jean's blog Crazy Mom Quilts. I am trying to learn how to machine quilt, so would love to add this to my pile to try so that I can get lots of practice!

Thanks for the chance to win and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well. I love this time of year, when the Holidays are approaching and we have a reason to take time out of our busy schedules to spend with family and talk about all that we are thankful for. I would like to do this all the time, but a special day for it, makes sure that it actually happens at least once every year!

As far as what I would do with it...not exactly sure, but Christmas is coming so I am guessing it would become a gift!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks for the opportunity at the give away. We found out that my brother will be visiting this Christmas. Since he has done two tours of duty flying into Iraq, it's nice that he is finally done for good and is able to have his family stay with us for Christmas. We haven't seen each other since 2001:( Needless to say, I'm scrambling with my own UFO's, to provide bedding for 5 people. I could use this as a buffer for my to-do list. Then again, sleeping bags are always fun for kids :) Thanks for getting us into the "Thanks and Giving" mood :)

  80. Somehow it doesn't feel right to me to enter your generous giveaway; I can make myself more than one quilt from my scraps (I don't buy much new fabric anymore). Nevertheless, here I am writing to you to say that batiks always amaze my eye, with their contemporary look and their connection to cultural traditions. Your quilt is a feast of colors and movement.

I feel connected to many quilters and stitchers via websites, blogs that I visit and a site called stitchfingers.ning. I learn and learn from every photo, tutorial and post that I see. And then I try to practice what I've learned.

This generous giveaway offers a heartfelt connection to you. Your quilt would make me feel as if I were wrapped in a new friendship with you and with all the quilters who I've met and will meet in the future.
    Thank you,

  81. Last Friday night, there was an auto accident in our community that took the lives of two young men, 20 & 21 years old, and seriously injured two other guys also in the car. The driver was the designated driver, we had a sudden hail storm, and the car went out of control on a turn and hit a tree. My daughter knew all of these guys. They all went to school together. I would like to give this quilt to the mother of one of the boys. She recently lost her husband, too, so is a widow who lost her only son. Too sad. If I win the quilt, it will go to her. 100. What a lovely quilt this is going to make, Carol. Just found your blog via crazymomquilts. Thank you for taking the time to share. I love the backs of your quilts. If I was to be fortunate enough to win this quilt, I too would finish it up and gift it to someone (I'm thinking my brother and his wife who are currently going through some of the toughest times parents could go through - losing their second baby to an untreatable metabolic disorder). I really want to give them something handcrafted but don't know if time is going to permit. Time is so precious. There is so much I am grateful for that I don't know where to begin. 108. This is fantastic! I'm glad I found your blog and I'm adding it to my Reader. I'm thankful for learning new quilting skills and would love the opportunity to practice my finishing process with this little package. It's beautiful by the way! You're inspiring me to be more generous!

  112. I would love to win this contest. My grandmother is VERY ill, and in a "home." I would love to be able to give her this amazing quilt to cheer her up, as well as keep her warm.

Thank you for hosting such a generous give away.

  113. I think I should win this lovely quilt top, back and binding for two reasons: first, I am just graduating in my machine quilting from wall hangings and baby quilts to larger quilts and this would be a great one to show off what I have learned. Second, I want to give a quilt to my brother-in-law who has cancer and is always cold, and everything I have in fabric is too feminine. This one would be perfect.
Thank you for having this awesome give away.

  114. I would love to win this quilt because it is so beautiful. I just finished my first quilt, it is small because I was afraid I would not be able to finish a big one. I would like a larger quilt that I can actually use on a cold night while I snuggle with my honey on the couch.
Thank you for offering something so beautiful, I can only dream of a day when I can make something so nice.

  115. Beautiful job! I would love to finish this up and give to my mom whom I just got back in touch with after a 8 year silence! With a baby it's hard to get much done and I've been wanting to do something for her to express my love in a warming way - literally and figuratively.

Thanks for the opportunity! Happy Thanks-giving to you and yours!

  116. To be honest, I would love to win this so I can finally have a snuggle quilt for the couch. No excuses for leaving the blocks to "age" 6 months before putting them together, no whining about having to get a backing together, or not being able to find a good binding. Might sound a bit selfish, but when you either give all of your quilts away or they get "claimed"...a girl needs a quilt! :)
It's beautiful and simple, and batiks are just gorgeous. You're so generous to be giving this away, and hopefully it finds a good home where someone will love it.

  117. This quilt would make a fantastic raffle quilt for RELAY FOR LIFE(American Cancer Society)! Last year I was involved in raising $ and this next year I'd like to do more. I am a machine quilter and would love to choose just the right pattern for it, quilt it, bind it and THEN it would spend the next few months in quilt shops for display while taking in the raffle $ for it!! I'm sure many would want to WIN this raffle quilt!

  120. Howdy Doody from Judy! You must be crazy for giving away such a quilt! I started quilting this yr after losing my 20 yr job working at a land title co that closed its doors. The 1st wk I was off we started quilting at church, then I joined the SE Texas Guild. I am so inspired by reading blogs, seeing pics, reading tutorials & seeing all the donation quilts given to good causes - I never read blogs before! I'm not quite old enough to retire, but learning ways to live frugally is turning out to be more fun than I had imagined it to be. I would love to 'win' your unquilted batik work! My friend has a long arm and it could be a real learning experience for me; then, when finished, true inspiration! The thought is to hang it in my sewing room! Happy Thanksgiving to all! We all have so much to be thankful for! Luvyabye, Judy LJJuda@sbcglobal.net

  121. I have never made a quilt so it should be a great way of making one, letting a pro do almost everything! Winter is really coming along here now so a quilt would be great for me and my baby when it's time for feeding. Or maybe I shouldn't be fooling myself to think it would be finished before the winter has ended considering I've never done it before and most probably would do it by hand? (maanbarn@gmail.com)
