Sometimes it's a wonder I get anything done!! With my hubby retired now, and by the time he gets up and showers and makes his breakfast, and I do all my morning errands, it's almost time for him to bug me in the kitchen again (where I sew) to make his lunch! And, naturally, he has to have the TV on. By then, I'm so frustrated that I've not done much all day, that I go lay down on the bed just to get away from him and often fall asleep (unintentionally) for 2 hours, so most of the day is shot! Boy oh boy, I remember the olden days when he was working and traveling for days and all I'd do is sew. I used to really pump stuff out then!
I did get a commission wall hanging done over the weekend though and mailed it off to it's owner just yesterday. She wanted the name of her blog on it and told me that she loved Kevin, from the movie "UP". (That was one of my favorite movies too.)
At this point, Kevin wasn't looking to "Kevinish" yet, but he was on his way. I knew I had to get the crayons out to make him look a wee bit more realistic.
The birds all finished:
And Kevin:
And the finished 20x17 wall hanging. I call it, "Footprints" 'cause Kevin's footprints spelled out her blog name. (I thought I was being clever???)
And yesterday afternoon, I started something new.............! Doesn't look like much yet, but wait!
I think your husband needs a hobby too - preferably one that takes him OUT of the house - or at least out of the kitchen!! Love your birdy wall hanging!
ReplyDeleteLove your wall hanging - just gorgeous - but all your work is! Keep on sharing - it is always inspiring!
ReplyDeleteWow! that recipient will sure be delighted. As for your dh, find him a hobby. Mine loves working in his shop making wooden cars, trucks etc. Not your average toy. drop by sometime and have a look.
ReplyDeleteHi Carol
ReplyDeleteThat's what happens to my weekends!! Terry likes to spend time with me and I am so happy when he goes outside to find something to get involved in. He will retire before me, so then I'll have plenty of time because I am going to get a standing Honey Do list that includes daily cooking, cleaning and laundry ~lol~ I can tell you, when he was laid off, he did all that pretty darn well!
xx, Carol
Ha! Reminds me of a friend who told her husband after he retired "I married you for better or worse but not for lunch!" Your work, as always, is inspiring!
ReplyDeleteSuper cute wallhanging, as always !
ReplyDeleteHugs.
How neat! Thanks for showing your process, I enjoyed it!
ReplyDeleteMy DH works at home like I do. There are days not much of anything gets done around here!
You described my mornings to a T..
ReplyDeleteI have learned to sew while he is still asleep (as of this morning..9:30). Sometimes I get my best work done then.
Your husband makes his own breakfast?? Cool!
Oh dear the retirment thing is still ahead of me but my friends and I sometimes worry a bit about it.It could have it's moments. Have a good day.
ReplyDeleteMen really do take up a lot of our time. Sometimes they can be so needy. LOL Your latest commission piece is just adorable.
ReplyDeleteCarol!!! This is just darling and you did a great job Kevin! What a darling way to spell out the name of her blog as well. I love your work.
ReplyDeleteShoot me an email. I may want you to do something for me sometime. xoxoxo

I am always happy to look at your quilts. They are so much fun and so cheerful. Thanks for sharing them with us.
ReplyDeleteYou are so clever! I just love your whimsical productions. And your day sounds a lot like mine since my husband went to second shift. I tell ya, it takes getting used to!
ReplyDeleteI just love your birds - someday I hope to become as creative.
ReplyDeleteI love it , you are so talented , so creative , just love to see what you will make next!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE KEVIN! Both in the movie and your quilt - wonderful!
ReplyDeleteyour commission is unbelievable..the details, the sky, sun, rocks...ohhhh of course the birds...tell me who would not be over the top excited to have anything of yours....This one is truly special Carol, as you and your very lucky who is now the proud owner...
ReplyDeleteI wanted to comment to say that I'm shocked your husband expects you to make his lunch, then I read the comment from the Quiet Quilter who thinks it's "cool" that he makes his own breakfast?!? What's going on over there? My husband makes his own breakfast and lunch and we cook dinner on alternate days... Isn't that normal??
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun quilt. Thanks for including the sizes of your quilts, it helps to put the quilt in perspective. You are so utterly clever-- the prints spelling out the name is brilliant!!! Please continue to post the quilt sizes, it really helps to visualize the scope of the beautiful quilts you create.

Carol,
ReplyDeleteYour work is amazing!!!!
Charlie now quilts, he just finished his 2nd King size quilt top. I must do the cutting and negative sewing, but all in all he lets me be...LOL!
Oh Carol ... the work you do in when you can squeeze it in is amazing! Kevin and the birds are amazing! Very clever foot tracks :) I have to admit to getting very frustrated when my husband is underfoot and we're many years from retirement! I ask him what his second career will be since he can retire at 53 ... maybe deep sea fishing? LOL Bless you and thank you for sharing your artistry!!
ReplyDeleteHello Carol! I enjoy so much seeing your works!
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh with your hb - I'm happy to hear that I'm not only one feeling like that and loosing half of the day. Fortunately my hb has a workshop out.
Have a great weekend! Teje
