I might have a few pictures mixed up here, so please forgive me. I'm not quite myself with the crying during the night from our new baby, you know! And, I thought you'd appreciate this before I take my afternoon nap!
As you might have heard, the doll swap is well underway and this time the rules state that all quilts must be pieced or needle turned applique to try to resemble a mini type bed covering. Since I am not, and I repeat....AM NOT, the worlds greatest piecer, I tried to devise a way to impress and get tiny without sewing my fingers off. Squares have never been a problem for me, but half squares is another story. I thought a mini pinwheel quilt might be fun so I started with 2 inch squares in the typical fashion with a line down the middle of the white one and sewing down the sides of the line. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about! I got all done and trimmed and cut the tiny corners.......
Not a bad macro shot for my 6 year old Canon, don't you think? Anyway, I continued and discovered that if I'd make the pinwheels in a normal size, I could always take my 2 1/2 inch template square, find the middle, and trim them down. Duh!
Seams aren't the best when you sew these little things together, but you do as well as you can and spray them and press them until they behave!!!
And when you're done......wa-la............
12 1/2 by 14 1/2 inches with 2 inch finished pinwheels! Problem is that my partner didn't comment, so I think it's back to the drawing board for me. Poop! I guess this might end up as another angel quilt. Good thing my new baby, Toby, is letting me sew without chewing the cords. That's a miracle in itself!
Not only is the 2 ltr bottle of Pepsi bigger than him, it weighs much more too!
Im sure your partner must be on a vacation or something.... How could she not like this - its wonderful!!! Wish I was your partner :o) And little Toby is so cute, I remember when my Cora was that size, everyone just fell in love when they met her! Hve fun :o)
ReplyDeleteYour new baby is just precious!!! I have to say your mini pinwheels are fabulous too!!! I agree with Merete in that your partner must be on vacation or having internet issues. I don't know how you can say that piecing is not your strong suit....these tiny pinwheel blocks are perfectly matched. Love the colors too. I just returned from a retreat and pinwheels seemed to be the popular block...at least three of us were working on pinwheels ;-) Some of my retreat friends must be in that same doll swap because they were discussing the new rules.
ReplyDeleteThat is one amazing quilt!!!
ReplyDeleteThis is fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure your partner will love it - she is obviously away at the moment!
You could always send it to me if she really doesn't like it!!!! but I don't think that is likely!!!
The pinwheels are awesome!! Love it. Send it to me!! Love your new baby. Toby looks like a stuffed toy. What a sweety. Thanks for the smiles.
ReplyDeleteOkay, CutieFace! How do I join your quilt swap so I can be your MOST GRATEFUL partner ever to have surfed the net????
ReplyDeleteI promise I will do something you LOVE and want to keep.
I LOVE all your work.
hugs

I would love it - where can I join this group? ;o)
ReplyDeleteToby is heartmelting, love him and I would really enjoy cuddling this little bundle of fur!

I love your pinwheels, so what did you do in the end, make big and cut donw. I do see a big pile of scraps, but you did also make a lot of tiny triangels, so what's the answer to that question. Question 2 what do you spray with, water or starch??? Just love that baby, you can always doze when he sleeps.
ReplyDeleteI hope your partner is just on vacation - I just adore pinnies and tiny ones at that. What a sweet new baby - your sleeping habits will have to revolve around his for a while - my cat has me trained rather well.
ReplyDeleteShe's gotta be crazy not to love this! Bright, colorful, classic...it looks fabulous! I love these little tiny mini pinis!
ReplyDeleteHi! Toby is a beauty! I'm happy to hear he lets you sew and keeps you good company!
ReplyDeleteThat mini quilt is just adorable!

The Pinwheel Quilt is so cute!
ReplyDeleteRenate
Your partner was most likely speechless and didn't know what to say in awe of such an amazing little quilt!! It's so perfect! And how cute is your other little one! I just want to tickle his tummy!
ReplyDeleteMy first thought was, your partner must be crazy not to have said anything, but the politically correct thing to say is, "I'm certain your partner is on vacation or super busy." At any rate, send it MY way, please; I will give a very appropriate response!
ReplyDeleteThat little pinwheel quilt is just the cutest and sew precise. Who says you can't piece!! And of course Toby is too cute for words!!
ReplyDeleteI love the colors! Your macro shot is very cool looking.
ReplyDeleteYour little quilt turned out just fantastic and how fiddly it must have been. To me its perfect and your partner must be away and would be blown away by it I think. Toby is still such a cutie! Hope you are getting sleep now and he has settled down. My little Bella sleeps thru the night thank goodness! :) hugs Vicki
ReplyDeleteLove the pinwheel quilt but then it is one of my favorite blocks. Very summery and happy. Don't you worry...your partner will love it when she sees it. Life does get in the way. She's probably on vacation.
ReplyDeletebtw - Toby is such a cutie.

Toby is sooo cute....he looks like a little fur ball...I love the pinwheel quilt...
ReplyDeleteYour pinwheel quilt is adorable, can I say there's something wrong with your partner if she doesn't like this one. LOL Your new little puppy is a sweetie. Is he a maltese or maltese mix? My little Fred ( Maltese ) has the same bisque colored ears. Don't spoil him too much, like that won't happen. Grins...
ReplyDeleteGreat job on the little beautiful quilt! :)
ReplyDeleteack you're making me regret my decision not to join... :)
ReplyDeleteHas your partner commented on anything else? There's such a lot of photos to comment on in that swap & I know I for one really struggle to comment on many if any at times, then did 50 all at once. So give her time - I'm sure she'll love it! What's not to love!
*Sigh... Toby is adorable. Could just eat him up! I'm mad because I looked at puppies myself a couple of days ago. Briefly. Thinking that maybe the way to make Izzy less demanding to me would be to get a second. Maybe next year... We'll see.
So cute - dog and quilt. I admire your dedication in making 2" pinwheels!
ReplyDeleteWell, I like it very much! I know how difficult this quilt must have been to make, it being so small! You did a wonderful job on it!
ReplyDeleteholy cats! those were some teeny tiny squares! must see this watermelon, drool-worthy quilt in person please! xx
ReplyDeleteWell your partner is either away or has slipped into a state of shock at the beauty of those pinwheels! If she doesn't want it please feel free to e-mail me and I will send a courier to pick it up straight away.
ReplyDeleteYour little friend is adorable!
Well, if your partner doesn't like it, I'll be happy to take it off your hands! Its WONDERFUL...like summer umbrellas or a day at a festival with ferris wheels. Great job!
ReplyDeleteLove little Toby, even if I don't really care for dogs too much. Shhhh, don't tell him, okay?
Hugs,
Rett
I LOVE the pinweel ! Looks so god !
ReplyDeleteAnd your dog is a darling :-)
Hello, Carol!
ReplyDeleteI am so very happy that you now have sweet Toby in your life! I understand that you lost your other dog a while ago. I'm sorry. All is well with us. Tim is still testing negative for cancer and his heart is much better since the procedure in February. My computer crashed a couple of weeks ago and was just replaced yesterday. Internet is obviously up but the email for me has a glitch. V-Rose will have to work on it wen she gets back from NY. Another glitch is that ALL INFO (pictures, files, saved emails, etc. is GONE. I am trying not to freak out... I apologize for so much info on your blog but I have found the old Sly but not the new one. I can't remember the 'address'. Now that my life is more 'normal' I'd like to start posting again. Have a wonderful day and enjoy that fluffy new baby!
P.S.: Oops! I do know how to spell 'when'! I went back a page or two on your blog to catch up a bit and must congratulate you on your gallery showing! You are a wonderful needle ARTIST!
ReplyDeleteHow fun, I love making mini quilts. Your is so cute. Toby is wonderful. We have a new puppy also. Ours is a little smaller. We have had him for about thee weeks. They are a lot of work but the kisses make up for it!
