I can hardly believe it, myself, but this.................yes, THIS..........is my 300th post! I added them all up and that's how come I know! Who knew I'd ever get to this point when I started blogging? Not me, that's for sure! I still have my "Blogging for Dummies" book that bought that started this whole mess, too! I should have taken a picture of it! With the amount of computer knowledge I have, you KNOW that this is a miracle!! Actually getting through that book was a miracle since I didn't have a clue half the time on what they were talking about!!! (Good thing I have smart friends to help me, huh? I'm sooooo thankful for them!! YOU know who you are, you sweetie, you!!! And for the other one too, who has helped me lots! And made my awesome blog header.)
I thought we should celebrate! Dontcha think? A long time ago, I was blessed with this:
Now, I've thought of various things I could do with all those various 21 fat quarters of red since I got it, but believe it or not, I think I already have most of them in my big "solids" bin which is the size of a small coffin. (Seriously, I could bury a child in that bin!! Just ask my friends!) But, I'm getting off subject.......back to the stack! I think I will bless a follower with it! How would that be? Hopefully, it won't take me a week to get back here to announce the winner. I don't know what my problem is lately.......although my back has been bothering me and I'm really not sewing much. I've been pumping Advil like it's going out of style!!
Just leave a note on what you think you'd make..........maybe you'll inspire me! I think I need it! So get your thinking caps on. I'm sure you'll come up with something good!
Oh, I have a Gee Bend quilt I would love to make. This bundle of red with a bit of black and sprig of mushroom - I just might get that one done up in a hurry!

I'm in the Las Vegas Modern Quilt Guild and I think we would use it for a challenge/charity quilt for an upcoming auction. We would likely pair it with an earthy khaki or bone color in some sort of modern pattern...It would be a shared project with every member making a block or two from the same fabrics....

I have been wanting to make a bargello quilt for such a long time, and I believe this stack would make an awesome start on a small project (tackle the small ones before investing in the large ones). I like to make quilts for children, but also for chemo and dialysis patients

When I look your red-orange-brown bundle, I think old earth coloured red houses that we have in Finland and Benta in Slikstitches just told about them in Norway.
Also I think about the 'red' ground here in Greece, strong orange sun ... still houses are strongly in my 'view'!

I would take the top half and put it in a quilt with some of my others solids and make a guy quilt for the quilt ministry. Then I'd use the bottom half for a boys quilt. I think it would go beautifully with this dog print I just bought. Congrats on your 300th post!

ReplyDeleteI would definitely make a "French Roses" quilt; pattern by Heather French. I don't think I've seen it made in solids, but there's always a first for everything. Did I tell you that red is my favorite color, well it truly is, but I've never made a red quilt. Red is a bold, passionate color, for the daring... (lol). If you're not familiar with the pattern simply google: French Roses Quilts, then click on images and you'll see plenty of quilt examples. In fact if you haven't already made one I think you will be inspired to do so---its all raw edge flowers (now I know I have your attention :) Again, congrats

ReplyDeleteThat is a very pretty stack of solids. I immediately thought of a flower garden with red poppies, roses and other redish flowers...then I think it would be cool to bring in color with prints only. I could never do as good of a job as you but I would sure try.
Oh and wouldn't it be cool to bring in white with a dogf just like yours? That would pop forsure!

ReplyDeleteI just went through and organized my Christmas fabrics to get some inspiration and those reds would be a perfect addition, especially since I don't have but one shade of it! I'm thinking of Christmas totes and have to get it out of my system. Cute ones with appliqued scenes and critters and some color blocked ones and some simple embroidery designed as well. Headaches galore here since this heat wave and pollution packed air has been in. Just opening the door to let the dogs out feels like a heatwave.

ReplyDeleteI see one of your landscape quilts, set in the fall. A tree is the main focus and the colors of fat quarters would be all the different leaves, on the tree and in a mound on the ground. Children would be running and jumping around the leaves and pitching them in the air. Pure fun and a great memory of my childhood. Our Sugar Maple is one of my favorites in the fall with all its glorious colors.

All of the ideas sound like so much fun. I have been working on some redwork embroidery by machine and I think those colors in your stack would make wonderful sashing and corner squares.
