Have you heard?

I probably read about this on many blogs recently, but until this weekend, I never really cared much.  What made this weekend different, I'll never know, but for some reason I was compelled to join in the fun.  Perhaps it was because hubby was going to be gone all weekend and I needed something to keep me busy.  (Let me tell you that although I do have my new iPad up and running .....thanks to the Best Buy geek......it's not as much fun as I expected!  I did play Angry Birds for a solid 4 hours on that first day, but even that seemed fruitless for a whole weekend.  Hello!!  lol)

Bet you don't know what I'm talking about, huh?  Well here is the link to my excitement.  For some reason, when a friend mentioned the challenge last week, I could have cared less, but then as the days continued I got more interested and so on Saturday morning I hopped in my car and took off to my LQS for the proper Kona colors.  (I probably had some in my stash, but since I had given my friend my Kona color card when I saw her and my new one with all the new colors hadn't arrived yet, I figured I might as well buy them all.  (Not all of the Kona colors.......EIKES...........just the 10 for the challenge.)  Then I came home and played.  You are allowed up to 3 pieced entries.  (Applique is not allowed.)

I started with this one which finished at 12 by 12 1/2 inches.

Then I moved on to this one.  That ended up to be 10 x 12 1/2 inches:

Did you notice that I didn't use my gray solids for that one?  I thought I'd throw a bit of a mix in there just for fun.  (Besides, I'm really not a gray girl......ugh!  But I do like that print for some reason.)  So, that took care of Saturday.  Then on Sunday, I made this one (which has always been one of my favorites, I must admit!) and it turned out perfectly at just the right size of 11 x 12 1/2 inches.

It sure does look a bit wonky on the picture (don't you agree?), but let me assure you that it is straight.

So what do you think?  Doesn't this look like fun?  I do have some scraps left and for sure there is enough for a block or two, if you want to try too.  I'll even include some white (which, believe it or not, I order in 5 yard bundles.)  If you want more inspiration, go to the QuiltCon Flickr group which is full of gorgeous blocks.  I'll pick someone tomorrow so I can get these scraps off to you pronto.  We wouldn't want you to be late for the challenge, would we???  Enjoy!

    Much better than playing games - all weekend. I can easily believe you buy white in large quantities. So bright & cheery - they look great.

    Love the 3rd one. Angry Birds is fun but our new app obsession is Cut The Rope. Addictive!!

    I really like that first block and I REALLY LIKE the 3rd one! I can't believe how many pieces you've stitched into such a small block! Good luck in the contest! I'll be rootin' for ya.

    Although I like all the blocks I do like the purity of block 1 and 3. Block 3 represents you very well. Have fun with your new iPad, I love mine but can't use it to blog with, it won't let me edit or add photos. Blogger and iPad don't like each other. I use it to read blogs and to play Patience, and Word Warp!

    Block #1 looks like an artsy free form needle trying to decide what color thread to use. Very interesting.

    I would recognize most anything you make without your name even being on it. Lori Holt comes close to your style. You may get tired of me telling you this but I love everything and anything you create!!! Your color choices are uniquely your own...they speak Mamacjt!! I do love Kona and especially Kona White to make all the other colors POP!!

    Those are some great blocks!! I can't pick a favorite because I love them all. Am really having fun watching these "solid only" blocks ans quilts pop out here and there...You dont have to be an art student to love color play!!

    Love the colors and the white does make them pop! It is very modern looking. I too, love what you make. Would love some of your white left overs. Wanting to learn color book quilting.

    I love the second one. Can you believe that I'm actually out of white? I need to start ordering in 5yd increments-- I usually do 2 but apparently I am out... Sigh just when I thought I'd go on a fabric diet! Miss ya, C!

    I like block 3 the most. As for the ipad, I LOVE mine - use it for news, checking e-mail, looking at quilt blogs, checking out movie times and reviews, getting a quick answer to just about any question. It's by my side all day. Hope you learn to love yours, too.
