Thank you all for your many suggestions on that ugly quilt from my last post. I so appreciate your ideas. First, I must tell you that I am not a ripper. No, no, no!!! Once something is sewn, it's sewn. Besides, if I had ripped out that sashing and corner blocks, I surely would have ruined some of the seams in the colored blocks. I took it to the quilt shop as it was and am having it quilted with tie dye variegated thread. Keep your fingers crossed....BUT, if it's still ugly, I will finish it, and shove it in my upstairs closet for my kids to wonder what to do with after I'm dead. LOL
One more thing. Sooooo many of you asked where I got my name tags. (They are the best, aren't they??)
I do love them!! Anyway, here is where I ordered them: http://www.sterlingnametape.com/ They have several styles, sizes, colors and fonts and they are FAST. You will love working with them. I'm almost ready to order my second batch.
Now for some old/new stuff. I must show you something from my past. In the late 70's/early80's (yes, I am that old!!!) I sold these outright to about 6 shops and did craft fairs in my area. (Too bad they didn't have the internet then......I might be rich now??? LOL) It gave me an outlet for my creativity as well as bringing in a bit of $$ while being a SAHM. Perhaps some of you remember salt dough ornaments???
These were all hand formed and hand painted and I did about 100 different kinds. Too bad the white paint and/or varnish has yellowed all these years.
I bring this up because when I started doing those pin toppers recently, it brought back memories of years ago. In actuality, I got the idea for the pin toppers from a marvelous and super talented artist on Etsy. Her stuff is amazing and gorgeous......you must look. I so admire her and her talents that I had to try to make them myself. Needless to say, I'll NEVER be able to copy her. She is way above me, that's for sure. Besides, I do go through phases, as many of you know, so this won't last anyway. Soon I'll be back to sewing. (Good thing for those of you who are waiting on commission quilts, huh??? I really have not forgotten you, believe me!!) But, I thought if any of you might like a pin topper of mine, I'd throw it out there........$5.00 each and when they're gone, they're gone. I have duplicates of all of these, so chose at will. At least I'll be able to re-coup some of my investment. My e-mail address is on my side bar.
Thank you all! And thank you too for being such loyal followers. I so appreciate each and every one of you and I cherish all your super wonderful comments and suggestions although I might not always have the time to answer all of them.
Love the pin toppers! Love the ornaments! Your creativity constantly amazes me. Thanks for the email. Hate drama. Cant we just have fun? :o)
ReplyDeleteOh, the ornaments are wonderful! What a lot of work went into those! I do remember them from the 70's (yeah, I'm that old too!), my mother's friend made a beautiful santa ornament....but like a cookie! It has amazing embellishments of the beard and coat....it's fabulous....and it's one of just a few ornaments I snagged when I left home. I still have it, and use it every year! I'm sure all those folks that bought yours at the fairs still have their little guys....they're such gems!
ReplyDeleteYou are so multi talented! I love your new craft - the pin toppers. Sooooo cute.
ReplyDeleteI think if you don't like the quilt you should give it away! Why take up valuable space and then leave it for your kids to take care of? Donate it to SOMEONE, or some cause. SOMEONE will love it! Seriously, they will.
So I went to the site for the name tags and can't figure out which you might have gotten. It looks like you got to choose your font. Do they come in those strips or all on a roll? A little more info please?
Of course you know I love these....sew yes I will get a couple..and what about those others...are you selling those..like the witch? lol
ReplyDeleteYour pin toppers are absolutely gorgeous! So are the salt dough ornaments. The kids in my class are making salt dough ornaments as part of a Friday maths rotation. The first group made them last week and loved it!
ReplyDeleteEverybody says it but your skills are amazing.... i love those pin toppers and dough ornaments... even if you think the quilt is ugly someone will find it beautiful...

Beauty. Eye of the beholder... Imagine your quilt with a white border with little black patches like you made your mug rugs with ... it'd be fun :) Your pins are absolutely adorable!! I may even hunt up my own stash of fimo clay ... maybe :) Thank you for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteI want to buy an ornament!!! Those are so cute with such sweet faces!
ReplyDeleteHi Carol!
ReplyDeleteIf they are still available, I would like to adopt the red velvet cake slice and the chocolate milkshake??
P.S. - Thanks also for the info about the name tags - they are very cute!
Patricia
Put me down for a pin topper. I love the milkshake one with the whipped cream on top. And those ornaments are adorable! Do you have any of those available? They are too cute and would look really cute on Sydney's Christmas tree! Heck, I want one for my tree!
ReplyDeleteAnd I like your quilt! I love all the colors! You are just too talented! You always inspire and amaze me!
i love your creativity!! very nice ornaments..is it true these ornaments have to be in the 200 degrees oven for 4-5 hours?! uhh..
ReplyDeleteAwesome! You are so creative.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing with us. :)
Oh my goodness those ornaments are adorable! My Mom made dough ornaments back in the day but nothing quite as cute as yours! We still put our on our tree so I bet your creations are all out there somewhere! You probably tire of hearing it but you are one talented lady and apparently have been for quite some time..... ;0)
ReplyDeleteMy sweet tooth seems to be getting worse as I age and those delicious looking pin toppers are a feast for my eyes. I like the pin cushion too, so colorful. I hope you will show us the finished quilt with the colorful tie dye quilting. We will be on pins and needles waiting to see it, LOL!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info about your tags... I have been so looking to have a simple, yet special tag. Thanks again..Great needle toppers..and the quilt...I think it needs a bit of quilting or a black and white strip quilted piece appliqued between the rows....Just thinking outside the box....
ReplyDeleteI hope you kept me on your list of buyers...from my last "Oh-I gotta-have" comments... =D I just LOVE the toppers...fun-fun-fun!

While living in Florida we soon learned that salt dough ornaments don't do well in the high humidity. They sort of melt!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is NOT ugly and I'm sure the tie died thread used in quilting will bring it all together. I think it is going to be beautiful. The salt dough ornaments bring back memories...I still have a treasured bunch we use on our tree every year. Your are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I admire my Mug Rug every day!
I went to the sterling label site but couldn't figure out which choice had the kind of fabric you used for your label. I like that fabric or whatever it is but couldn't tell where to find it. Which type/kind of label did you choose?
ReplyDeleteThanks
