Green thumb or just lucky?

Our weather reported that we were to get a hard frost last night so yesterday, I had hubby pull out our two tomato bushes and 2 green pepper bushes and look what he brought in.  What a haul!  You'd think we haven't eaten anything off those bushes yet, but that's not the truth!  Every week for the past 5-6 weeks we've had a dinner of BLTs.  Yum!  And I've given 8 green peppers away before this crop even showed up.  Amazing!  Now, hopefully, those green tomatoes ripen.

And, of course, I sent out fun envelopes to my girlies!  Little Audrey is all about Halloween this year so I told her I'd send her Halloween envelopes all month.

And, again, I only read one book this week but it was really good.  I sure wish I'd get back in the groove though and read more!  I did start #2 and so far it's pretty good.  Actually, I won #2 through the Goodreads first read program so that was cool.  The book won't be released until January of 2015.

THE BUTTERFLY AND THE VIOLIN    debut       by         Kristy Cambron
HOUSE BROKEN                                              by         Sonja Yoerg

I also bought another two books from Amazon, but I'll show you those next time!  Have a great week, my friends and be well!

Winter is coming…...

It's getting so nippy here lately that the only warm place poor Toby can find is a sun spot in the dining room.  I find him here often in the morning just snoozing away.  What a life, huh?

Naturally, I sent out books this week to my "girlies" so here are the decorated envelopes that I used:

Then too, I read two books this week only.  Don't ask me what is wrong with me lately.  There for awhile I was reading 4-5 a week and lately it's only been one or two so that's why I decided to take a picture of the covers this week.  By far, the best of the bunch was the one on the right and I have to thank, Jane, for suggesting it.  I really enjoyed it!  It takes place in Wisconsin (my home state) in 1961 and the main character is a 9 year old little girl.  My sister was 10 in 1961, so I could relate to many things in the book and smiled at lots of situations that entered my memories of those times.

So, that's it for this week.  Tonight we are having friends over for cards and games and Tuesday, my neighbor and I will be taking a short trip to visit a friend with puppies.  Thankfully, she has them all sold so we don't have to worry about bringing home anything unplanned.  lol  Hope you have a fun week planned too!  Happy reading!

Gorgeous weather…..

I think we've been having our best weather of the entire year this week.  Everyday for the past week (and going into most of next week, I understand) it's been in the low 70s during the day with low humidity and high 50's at night.  The trees are beginning to turn colors and everyone is walking around with smiles on their faces.  Life is good!  Tonight we're celebrating with our neighbor friends by going to a local hamburger joint and eating outside on their patio for probably the last time this year.  We all know that winter is right around the corner.  Ugh!

Here are the envelopes for this week:

And then, naturally, I read a few books…….actually, only two:

THE MOMENT OF EVERYTHING            by               Shelly King
RUNNER                                                      by                 Patrick Lee

And I bought a few books this week too:

Now, if I'd only get myself to read faster, I'd be all set!

Enjoy your week, my friends!

Fall is coming…..

Who can believe that the morning temps have only been in the high 30's here earlier this week.  E-gads, it's been so chilly that we even flipped on the furnace a few times.  I was sitting in my hoodie with socks and still shivering.  I sure hope we don't have a repeat winter of last year!  (Although from the Farmers Almanac, I understand that is what is supposed to happen.)  I think I need a Florida vacation for 3 months out of the year!!!  Wait until I tell hubby…………….lol!!

Here are the envelopes I mailed this week.  You'll note that two of my friends had birthdays.  The others went to my little girlies.

And then…………..this is unbelievable…………..I didn't even finish one book this week!  Yes, you heard that right!  I started and am still reading this:

SEVEN WONDERS                          by                  Ben Metrich

It's an adventure and mystery in the vein of Indiana Jones looking for the DaVinci Code artifacts, but obviously not as exciting as that might sound.  I'm only on page 109 out of 314, but I WILL finish it…(hopefully by the time I post next week.)  Until then, take care and enjoy all the sunshine you can before the big snows come much sooner than any of us want, I'm sure.  UGH!

An exciting week……..

Things are pretty sad when the highlight of my week was the Tuesday release of Season 3 of  "Homeland".  My husband and I LOVE that series, but are too cheap to subscribe to Showtime, so we buy the DVDs when the season is over, and then watch the other seasons prior to the release to catch up.  You realize, I hope, that is like marathon viewing….but oh, how we love it!!  Two disks to go and the new season 3 will be done and then we'll have to wait another year.  One of these days, I might have to cave and call my cable provider…maybe??  At least just to check the price, huh?  Seems crazy though for only one show.

And here are the envelopes I sent out this week:

I did manage to get a few books read too, believe it or not.  Although I wished I could have finished more:

THE UNIVERSE VERSUS ALEX WOODS  debut    by      Gavin Extence
PERSONAL                                                          by       Lee Child
CAMP UTOPIA AND THE FORGIVENESS DIET    by      Jenny Ruden

The 2nd one is good (as are all Jack Reacher books), and #3 is a bit quirky, but being a bit "fluffy" myself my whole life, it's not as funny as I think it was meant to be.  I have gone through every diet on the universe too and I hurt for the 16 year old main character who's mother spent $5000 to send her to "fat camp" for 8 weeks.  I have about 100 pages to go so I'm hoping it improves.  AND….for all you skinny babes out there……I hate you!!!  lol  J/K

Of course, if I wouldn't make stuff like this, I might be a bit thinner:

QUICK CHICKEN TETRAZINNI

8 oz spagetti - cooked
2 cups cooked and diced chicken
10 oz can cream of chicken soup
10 oz can cream of mushroom soup
2 Tablespoons melted butter
1/3 cups milk
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/8 teaspoon pepper
1 cup Mozzarella - shredded
1/4 cup parmesan cheese

Combine all EXCEPT parmesan cheese.  Mix well and put in a 2 quart casserole dish.  Top with parmesan and bake 350 degrees 30 minutes.  Really yummy!!  (And fattening!)

Have a good week, my friends!  Happy reading……and eating!  lol
