By George, I think I've got it!

If you're here to see sewing stuff, X me out right now!  I haven't sewn a stitch all week other than sewing a binding on last night and since hubby wasn't home, I have no pic.   He's my holder, you know!  LOL  (Much to his dismay too, I might add!  You should hear the complaints about his arms getting tired.  Poor baby!)

No, I have been waaaaaay busier deciding what kind of dog I should get since those two baby poodle/maltese I showed you last time were adopted under my nose in record time!  Guess I'm not as "johnny on the spot" like I used to be.  Gee, you get busy with household duties one day, and poof, everything changes!

I decided to do some soul searching and came up with something that I've always wanted and think that it's about time I should have.  How about a maltese?  I love white anything, they're tiny and easy to groom, they can't break the bank in food costs cause they're so little, and because they're so little, I can eventually get two!  Won't that be fun?

I ran the gambit calling well known bichon breeders this week, and even got some offers for older  champion lined puppies, but after much thought, I've been there, done that and I need a change.  Besides, have you ever seen anything cuter than the following pictures?

I can't resist!  I have to get one! 'Course, I won't be putting a hat on mine, that's for sure!  Cute, though, huh?  Last night, I discovered someone within my area who has a 1 1/2 week old boy who might be selling.  I figure I have about 10 weeks to sew until I'd get him...if she lets him go.  He was the only one in the litter.  I haven't even called her yet........but I have about 2 or three other options, if she keeps him, so I'm safe.  Stay tuned!  Oh, and thank you all ever so much for your input!  You are all such great helpers!  Because of you, my DH even agreed to one at a time!  Whew!  So, if you have any other suggestions, PLEASE let me know.  I need all the help I can get!

What an adorable dog!!! After a lot of soul searching, i got a puppy recently. I decided that I was going to choose a puppy that was everything I wanted. For once I would not make a choice for the family. I probably looked for a year or so AFTER I decided the breed. But when I saw his picture I KNEW that he was meant to be mine. In my mind he was smiling for the camera. He was an older puppy and was basically housebroken...it was a great choice. Keep looking until you find the one that speaks to your heart. (By the way, my pup is a Havanese, I had never heard of them until my boss got one.)

Totally adorable!

Every time I hear Maltese all I can think of is Falcon. I'd have to name the little fella Bogie.

Oh my gosh, Carol...how SWEET!! I could even fall in love with one like that!!! Precious beyond belief!

Are you sure that long hair isn't going to be tough to maintain? Having never groomed a single dog in my entire life, I have no idea...I'm just askin'

Good luck finding the poochie of your dreams. Sounds like you've made up your mind that you're getting one. *wink*

Hugs,
Rett

Good luck! I know how hard it is to get a new dog after the loss of another one. We last our dog about 18 months ago and we have not gotten another. We still have two dogs that belong to our kids. One day maybe. Those little puppies are so cute!!

Carol, one thing about small dogs like the Maltese is that they live a long time. We had one for 14 years. She was my daughter's dog, but after my daughter died (at age 23) I couldn't stand to have the dog around anymore. She was still going to live for many more years, so we ended up giving her to an animal "retirement" place in Wisconsin that takes in animals that are ill or injured or that have been abused. The animals get to live out the rest of their lives with care and decency. Our dog wasn't the typical placement, but the woman who started the program had Maltese and loved them, so she agreed to take her.
They are the cutest animals and so affectionate. I said she was more cuddly than my kids! Start the grooming immediately, so the puppy gets used to it. Ours hated getting groomed and was very high-strung.We kept her hair long for many years, but finally resorted to giving her a puppy cut that was easier on all of us. Try to find one that has a more mellow personality. Also, ours was larger than the preferred size, but still was only about 7 lbs.
I hope you find one that fills the empty spot in your heart.
Good luck!

I owned a full breed female malteese and loved every moment of owning her. They bond quickly and become extremely loyal to their owners. My only suggestion would be to consider a gilr rather than a boy, only because you don't want him lifting his leg on your furniture:)))

Oh by the way I forgot to say grooming is no piece of cake, they take a lot of grooming as their coat will matt easily if it isn't brushed or clipped regularly.

Oh Carol...perfect choice! Right up your alley, white, fluffy, and a pretty coat to groom. Just think of the cute little blue bow you can put in his top knot when you are finish grooming him! Good luck and please post many photos of your new little fellow when you get him!

Now back to your Disney quilt....Bouncypoodle!

Hi there I am visiting your blog for the first time but how could I resist a puppy face like that! I have a Maltese too and I have to say she is the absolute best dog I have ever had! We adore her. Maltese are a great breed and I did a ton of research before we got her. I hope you get yours!!

I have a Yorkshire Terrier/Maltese mix. Bee is apricot colored and is just the most wonderful dog. Either way, you can't miss!

Carol you are killing me with all these puppy posts- they are just TOO stinking CUTE! :) I tried to make comment on a couple of the other posts but my comments wouldn't submit so I'll say it all here...
Maltese are just gorgeous. Our first dog (who is now sadly my Nana' doting wee boy) was a bichon/Maltese cross and he is just the loveliest sweetest dog ever. I can't wait to give him a hug when we go back to NZ for a visit next week!
I have not found the difference between an early neutered male & a female small dog to be remarkably different. Other than the pee thing obviously :) And I think if anything our male dog was much more loyal and loving to us.
And equally I am smitten with our bichon cross pappillion.
I don't think you could go wrong with raising any of those bundles of cuteness from a puppy!
If I was in your stage of life I would choose to get 2. Boy they are hard work as puppies though. So we got 1 and then a year later the other, once the first was trained. That worked really well.
Now that we only have the 1 I often feel like she misses her buddy. Even 2 years down the track and with us being home all day.
Good luck with your decision! Can't wait to hear the result! Xx

Carol,
Choose a dog from a good breeder. Look for one who does health tests (check out the Maltese Club of America web site (or the AKC web site to find the Maltese one) to find out what sorts of health issues these little guys have). Look for a breeder who shows her dogs and is looking to breed a better dog, not just a cute one. The breeder should insist that you contact her if you need to give up the dog at anytime in its life and insist that you spay or nueter the pup.
