Woe is me

I bet you have never met anyone in your life who couldn't get one of these up and running:

Well, honey, you know one now!!  Our 40th wedding anniversary was Friday so DH and I decided to get an iPad.  Now, we all know tons of people who have one and use them, right?  Hello!!  I mean, DH has an iPhone4S and I use a MacBook, so setting up an iPad shouldn't have been too tough for us, right?  NOT!!!!  Seems that my MacBook uses one e-mail incoming and outgoing code and DH's iPhone another code so nothing coordinates the way it should.  We were on the phone Friday afternoon with 3 Apple genius' for over 3 hours and they haven't a clue what to do.  The suggestion was to call our e-mail provider to straighten out the problem, but when DH did that, they insisted it wasn't their problem and to call AT&T which is DH's phone provider.  You can only guess what AT&T said..........YUP, they told us that it wasn't their problem either and the e-mail provider had to be the culprit.  So.....isn't this just ducky???  E-gads, I HATE technology!!!  Hate, hate, hate it!!  In the meantime, the new iPad sits on the counter and can't do a thing.  You can only imagine what I am thinking!  TAKE THE DAMN THING BACK!!!  I didn't need it up to this point, and I don't need it now!!  Screw it!  What really took the cake is when one of the Apple genius' (named Barbara) told me that she talks all the time to an 84 year old grandma who "just loves her iPad".  After all of this, I'm wondering if the grandma loves her iPad so much, why is she constantly talking to the genius named, "Barbara" all the time???  Hello????   Did Barbara think that comment just went over my head?  Hello!!!  NOT!!!  I wish I could write dirty words because I'd really like to!!!  Give me a sewing machine any day of the week!  At least the frustration isn't as bad!  (At least most of the time.)  lol

On another note, the Sew, Vote, Swap #5 is over and it's always such a fun surprise discovering which quilt will come my way.  This time, I received my #1 pick made by Lindsay who is also known as "Fly Girl Fly".  Her entry reminded me of the fantasy of little girls:

Sew, Vote, Swap Quilt -Received

If you remember, or perhaps I didn't show you, this is what I made:

"A Small Fiesta"

Other than that, not much is new.  I haven't been sewing like I should.  (Has anyone??)  Not much is going on in Flickr lately (as you might have noticed), and I only need so many quilts for us so why bother making more?  (What a lazy attitude, huh?)  I do have something in mind that I want to try, so hopefully, I will get to it this week.  Problem is that if it turns out good enough, I might save it for some swap and won't be able to show you anyway.  Bummer!  One of these days, I should make something big though.  That would take up some time and some fabric.  I'm thinking with all this little stuff I make lately (and using the crayon method too), I could be set for fabric for at least the next 20 years or so and surely that's not too thrilling!

Aww sweetie ... Reading this filled me with a mixture of laughter (sorry, lol) and the intense need to give you a hug!! ... I am yet to get myself an iPad too, though I DO have an iPhone3 and an Apple laptop (circa Jan this year), so I guess I am technical ... only so far as to use it for what I need it for - if either fails me, I will be calling my Apple-savvy neighbour :) ... Hope you guys figure out what's what!!! ... And congratulations on such a wonderful anniversary!!! That's awesome!!! ... Also, gorgeous mini's!!!

I think that maybe you will like it better soon. If the main issue is email, you can get gmail using the browser - safari - instead of the mail client and you can just forward your email there from your other (not gmail) emails if you like. If the issue is connecting to the internet via the 3G just use wifi for now. If you don't have wireless internet, you can connect it to wifi using your DH's iphone's hot spot. So these are not solutions but work arounds but they might get you up and running. The pictures look so good on it and it is very portable, I expect you will end up loving it.

I do love my iPad. Even if it takes you a bit to get your mail set up, can you at least use it to surf? I love reading blogs on it.

Yep.....I say take it back and go get yourself a really nice new (or antique) sewing machine, some new fabric (different from your normal stash....yikes!), and make a big bed sized quilt that will be done by the time it's winter! And it will be for you both, so it's like an extended anniversary gift! Yay!

Hope you had a great anniversary anyway! 40 years.....woohoo!

well da-gone-it Carol I am so sorry to here your troubles with that stinkin' Ipad. Most of time those techs are only reading script ya know!:/ If my hubby was up there with me I would have him help ya! We aren't going up your way until October though. BTW,if you would like to get together/are available let me know!

Completely teasing you with this one,but maybe you should have gotten a puppy instead of the Ipad?!! lol!

Oh the frustrations of modern technology! My husband is less knowledgeable on tech stuff than I am (I'm good at trial and error!) and he always wants to "help" install, sync, whatever needs to be done with the new stuff. Egads!

I too am amazed on how slow Flickr has been! Are people really sewing that much less?

Hi Carol, I wanted to let you know that my hubby says that it probably is the ISP that you are using (he's not an Apple Genius, but he is pretty qualified -- he is a senior level UNIX systems administrator). One thing you might try (for you, I don't know about your husband) is to set up a gmail account or your yahoo account on your iPad, and forward your regular email to that. That's probably the easiest way to deal with the specific problem that you're having. Oh, and he said that since you are both Apple product users, you probably also both have a "cloud" email via Apple. For me, he forwards all my gazillion email addresses into my one, long-time trusty email address. Hope that helps, at least a little.

For what it's worth, I didn't set up my iPad. I had my tech guy do it for me. There are days when I truly feel blessed to be married to a technology guru. lol

Don't you just hate it when technology doesn't work like it is supposed to? I use Macs and iPads and love them. The advice about gmail is good. The other thing I would do is to go to an Apple store. They will have you set up the iPad step by step. It is one great service. Good Luck! ~Jeanne

So sorry it isn't working correctly. What a pain.

Know what you mean about the sewing slump. I think I have swap withdrawl.

Oh, that's all Greek to me (even I speak Greek)! I think that would happen to me, too. So often I have problems with something and then hb comes and makes it work just the way I was trying.
Your quilt is so happy and beautiful and the other one you received is as beautiful even with so light colours!
I just finished a quilt, first time with tiny tiny squares - that was fun and I love your little patches! x Teje

I feel some of your pain. My family gave me an IPad last weekend and an early 40th B'day present and I promptly gave it straight back and asked them to "get it working for me" . . . . set it up and put what I need on it so it is ready to go ... still no emails though and now not to sure I should ask again! :o) I am begining to love it though and technology and me, well we just don't get along to well :o)

When I have tech problems, I find a 17 yr old kid. If he can't help, get a 15 yr old kid. I just got an Iphone and couldn't get my Itunes to work, the kid helped.

Carolyn P. is right, Carol. Find a teenager or two to set everything up for you. I don't know how to do any of this 'stuff' and depend on my teens. I don't have any "i" anything. Your quilt is so bright and cheerful! I sure an having fun planning pretties with my gifts. I want to make a French bonnet from the Mimi book. Thank you again, dear friend!

Oh how I feel for you. My hubby got me an Ipad for Christmas and I gave it right back. About the only thing I do with it is play Angry Birds and that is provided I can get it away from my seven year old or hubby long enough to try. I am not into all the new technology, although I probably should be. One day maybe.

I love our current technology...but it confounds me. My mom got a Kindle Fire and loves it...now that it is figured out! They had a router issue, got a new one with more ports, but she had an email issue. I did too on my ipod touch. I opened my email using google/safari and bookmarked that page. I did open a new email for all my sewing stuff through google. Our family tech-dude had the nerve to move out of the area!!! I love technology...once I have figured it out!!! Good luck!

Oh Carol, You have my sincerest empathy because I am another techno Idiot! I have a love/hate relationship with technology. if not for my tech genius son who does technology for a living (where he got those genes I'll never know)the mister and I would be up a creek without a paddle. I get so frustrated and upset with the patronizing tech geeks on the phone. AT&T is the worse!!! I love Verizon and as soon as my AT&T contract is up, we will be making a big old switcheroo. best of luck getting your Ipad going. I'm afraid to upgrade my sewing machine because of all the computer know-how that's needed. What sewing machine do you use? Do you have an embroidery machine? serger?
