My "Copic" Markers

These past few weeks, I have gone a different direction.  While I do love to sew, especially my "ladies", I really love to draw.  Perhaps that is what makes the ladies so enduring.  I have to draw them first and then try to get them to look like themselves.  Lately, I have been hearing more and more about Copic markers.  I remembered that I did use them a few years back when I made and designed our Christmas cards for that year, but what I remembered was that they were really expensive.  Since I had a lull in my normal sewing activities, I decided to investigate.  (After all, I'm not getting any younger and I DO like to play!!!)

I took a trip to Michaels, picked up a few Copics, along with some Bristol heavy art paper and went to town.  I thought cards might be nice.  What I didn't realize is that since the Copic markers are alcohol based, they bleed through the back of the card stock.  Change of plans.......mount the finished drawings on colored card stock or frame them!  AND........get bigger envelopes!  lol

I thought you might like to see some early endeavors.  Remember that you can click on any of them to see it bigger:

Happy Birthday

Puppy Love

Cupcake Mouse

Birthday Love

Dress Up

Lots of Love

Shhhhhh

Bunny Girl

BUT.......the best one was this last one!  I made and sent this to my dear friend, Annie in California, who has several issues to deal with at the moment.  I thought that since she is such a "lady" that she might need a small card of some type to whip out of her pocket and flash at specific moments as needed.  If you remember, she was the one who sent me that awesome envelope from my last post.  Besides, I knew she would laugh every time she looked at it:

I had no idea it would become such a hit!  Since sending this to Annie, I have duplicated this little "Beep Girl" twice already in a 5x7" size for frames and have given them as gifts.  Now, I'm thinking she might be a little business in herself!  The recipients couldn't stop laughing!  Stay tuned.......you might see her lots!  In fact, if you are interested in obtaining your own little "Beep Girl", let me know.  I've already started drawing and coloring with my Copics like a mad woman!!  Soooo fun!  Are you laughing too?  I bet, huh?

Holy Moses, Carol...you TRULY are an artist! I can see an entire book illustrated with your girls.
Yes, you could start a card business, too.
I wish I had 1/10 of your creative talents and I ♥♥♥ "Beep Girl". Just sassy enough without being too crude.

Have you seen the latest craze in "F*ck Cancer" quilts? Google it.

Talk to you soon. We're getting dumped on today...3-6" snow. I'll be inside all day.
Hugs,
Rett

Carol, your talent is amazing. Your beep girl is hilarious. You should definitely illustrate a book or sell greeting cards. To good to not share.

Oh my gosh! A "Beep" girl in the quilting world. It seems so hilariously out of character or is it in character? Nevertheless, something that many find offensive has been relegated to utterly cute status. Should I or should I not show this to my 14 year-old? All of the drawings are awesome!!

Annie will love that card, lol! I like that the finger is huge too, which adds more to the fun of it. You are so talented with your drawings as well as your quilts.

When you told me you were making a "special drawing" for me that I could carry with me and pull out when needed, never in my wildest dreams did I think of anything close to this sweet adorable little creature with her obscene gesture! hahaha She brings out a chuckle from me every day! And she was so sweetly camoflauged in that FUN envelope! Awesome mail day for me! I love all those drawings, but beep girl really is the best for me! THANK YOU!

You certainly are talented! I think you could make a fortune in either producing your own line of designs or selling them to a card company. I would buy from you!

Well apparently your talent knows no bounds! All of the pictures you have done are wonderful, including the fickle finger of fate salute. You could sell these images as cards or any number of gift items. Another career perhaps??
I can also see these done as small quilts in your inimitable style!!

Hi Carol. You are an amazing and wonderful Lady.
Here in Portugal we have a severe crise, huge unemployment, and so on. People go to the streets with cards and sayings against government.... That Beep Girl would be the best of all!
Congratulations!

You are a trip! I guess I'm not much of a lady because I wouldn't necessarily need a card to whip out whenever the occasion should arise. lol

these are amazing, your talent blows me away. Love the mouse one! Have you considered selling applique/embroidery patterns? I think you've got a unique style and people would snap them up.

I love all your work. I follow about 30 blogs and yours is my favorite. I was wondering if you would make a caricature drawing of my grandson with your new pens, like your quilted ladies. If you are open to the idea please email me so that I can send you a picture and you could let me know a price. Thank you for considering my request and thank you for sharing your talents.
