Nothing much new here…..

Holy cow, I am one boring girl!  Nothing new….well actually a whole mess of stuff has been happening with friends and relatives, but nothing really affecting me, personally, and I guess, that's good.  When you get to my age, you really appreciate…boring!  No ups or downs and things just going reasonably well is wonderful!  I KNOW that some of you know exactly what I mean!!

No sewing again…stuff is still all packed away in the basement for now and I'm thinking it just might stay there for the remainder of the year.  I have purchased a ton of yarn lately, and just like my fabric stash, my collection is growing faster than I can use it.  I NEED to stop!  I did pawn off a few DROPS FABEL skeins on my sister and neighbor this week, so I feel a bit better and if any of you want to try that "Dorothy's Slip Stitch Spiral Knit Sock" patter …….look it up on Google, it's free), I'll see what I have left and send you a skein or two.  It is cheap though and I bought mine at the Nordic Mart.  The yarn name is Drops Fabel Prints and you need two to make a pair of socks.  Later in this post there is a picture of a pair.

Until then, here are the envelopes I sent out this week:

And here are my socks.  The colors that I used on these were 914 an 903 (in case you're interested).

Since I had made three pair of that pattern already, (and even though I have a ton of yarn left for more combinations), I thought I needed a change, so here is what I'm knitting now.  This yarn is NOT cheap…...it is marvelous and I am in heaven with every stitch.  It has cashmere in it….ummmmm!!  Note that it does have a slight variance in color which makes it interesting.  I can't wait to see these done.

So, until next week…when I will be in a flurry preparing for the annual family pool party…..I hope you will be doing something that you love this week…..after all, that's what makes life fun!  Have a good week, my friends…...

Some decisions made…..

Well, I'm happy to tell you that the carpet choices are made and everything is set to go once I talk to my salesman.  The measurer guy was here this morning and I'm anxious to hear the outcome, although I kind of know the total sq. footage for both areas.  We decided to not only do the living center, stairs and upstairs loft area, but also the master bedroom and closet.  (Pity me when we have to move all the stuff and put it all back together after the job is done.  Whew…I'm sweating already just thinking about it!!)  Sonny boy and his friend will remove the old carpeting and padding, and then, who knows?  Where all the furniture will be while this is all going on, I have no idea!!!  Maybe, if it's nice, we might put it in the garage.

I, naturally, sent out envelopes to my girls this week.  I must admit that I am running out of books and envelopes, so soon, I'll either have to draw some more envelopes for the ones I have and color them, or give up this practice altogether.  I have been doing this for Audrey well over 2 years already and now it's getting to where her books are getting too fat to send through the mail.  Although Audrey is only going into 2nd grade, she is reading at almost the 5th grade level.  Arwen is a good reader too, but not to the point to where her books are too fat yet.  She is a year behind Audrey though.

I am still knitting away, and finished another crazy pair of socks.  Note that I reversed the main color in each to the opposite so they are a mis-matched pair, but still go together.

No reading this week, in fact, I think I should take my library books back because I have gotten no further than page 40 on the one I started two weeks ago.  Bummer to me!!

Hope you all are enjoying the little bit of summer we have left.  So far the weather here is better than it was in June, so we're hoping it holds out a little longer.  I have our family "pool party" scheduled here for Sept 6th and that day can quite literally mean anything in Wisconsin….there have been years it's been 90 and some in the 50's so time will tell.  I'm not getting anxious yet……another week and then I'll decide if it will come to pass this year or not.  With so many of my family on vacations this summer, the party was postponed.  Usually we have it in July.

Until next week…..enjoy yourself!!

Nothing exciting….

Wow…between knitting my brains out (and still going so slowly) and running back and forth to the carpet store, it seems as though the week just got away from me.  Sometimes, I wonder how I did everything when I used to work.  lol  I'm in process of another pair of fun socks and hopefully I'll finish them this week so I can show you.  AND….hopefully too, I will decide on carpeting (decided against hardwood) and be done with that chore.  This running back and forth with samples is driving me "batty"!!  My house is so much brighter than the store that the samples look completely different when I get them home.

I did send out envelopes to my sweeties this week, naturally:

My head has also been in La Reunion Island this week.  If you recall, that's the island where the piece of the missing plane MH370 appeared last week.  Actually, it was discovered the same day my sister, BIL, niece and nephew arrived there to witness and celebrate my other nephew's (and Godson's) wedding.  It was on a bluff overlooking the Indian Ocean and I guess, from what I heard was glorious! My niece is already back and told me all about it.  La Reunion Island is a tiny island southeast of Africa and is owned by France.  To get there from the US is a real trick.  First to Dublin, then Paris and finally an 11 hour flight to La Reunion…….to the tune of (I hope you're sitting down)….this time of year, $2700 per person round trip.  Now you know why the whole family wasn't there!!!  The bride is from there and the two of them met in Australia where they both work and live now.

On the way home, my sister and BIL decided to extend their trip, so toured Paris (here is a photo of them having tea (or something???) and then they went off to London for a week.  I'm anxious to hear all about it!

Believe it or not, I started a book……"Black Eyed Susans" by Julia Heaberlin that I picked up at he library but I'm only on page 40 so can't really give you a whole big opinion, yet.  So far though, it's really good.  You might want to check it out.

Anyway, that was my week.  Hope yours was good…….

Having fun!

Boy oh boy!  Since I told you about my latest passion:  "Dorothy's Slip Stitch Spiral Knit Socks" I have done nothing but knit, combine yarns and place orders.  Believe me, "nordicmart.com" loves me!  At only $3.05 a skein for 50gr. though, it is quite a steal.  2 skeins are used for one pair of socks.  I think I have enough for awhile to supply myself, my sister and even my neighbor since I invited them both to join me in this fun adventure.

Most people that I've heard of, use Drops Fabel yarn…which is the stuff pictured above.  I didn't know that when I first started, so bought some German yarns that were self striping instead and made this:

Then, so I wouldn't get bored, but still wanted two, I decided to reverse the main color on the 2nd sock and ended up with two socks which look like they belong to each other, but not quite.  Personally, I think they're a hoot!

I think these will be put away for Christmas…..I have someone special in mind already!  I, naturally, sent out some envelopes, but only to one girl this week.  My niece is on vacation, visiting her brother in Reunion island where he got married last Saturday.  Funny that hardly anyone one in the world knew of this place until my sister and family landed there and the debris from the downed MH370 plane was discovered the very same day.  Anyway, that's not why I'm not sending the books to my great niece, I'm not sending them because she and her daddy are very busy while my niece is away…..lol  The ones below went to my granddaughter.

Then, I started playing with more yarn.  How do you like it so far?

Stay tuned for more cool combinations and possibly another finished pair.  Whew….if only I could knit as fast as I used to sew!!
